CDC assured businessmen new charter will truly empower the people

BANGKOK, 15 March 2015 (NNT) - The Constitution Drafting Committee has assured members of the business sector that the new charter will truly empower the people.

CDC’s Vice Chairman Suchit Bunbongkarn spoke to a group of business people at a seminar on the charter drafting held this weekend that the core essence of the new Constitution is to strengthen the rule of democracy through the empowerment of the people of Thailand.

Mr. Suchit said that the CDC has also been welcoming all opinions related to the new charter even though the first draft of the Constitution is already completed.

He added that the charter drafters will continue to heed all suggestions and ideas from various groups of people, including business people, and to incorporate into the charter the opinions from the National Reform Council which are expected to be sent back to the CDC in May.

Mr. Suchit insisted that all ideas will be taken into consideration in order to make the new charter the highest law that benefits Thailand the most.

Suriyasai calls for referendum on draft charter

BANGKOK: -- Suriyasai Katasila, a political activist and Rangsit University academic, Sunday called on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to commit a national referendum on the draft charter.

Suriyasai said Prayut had confused the public by saying the final draft would depend on the decision of the junta and the government. This led to concern whether the junta already has its own draft, Suriyasai said.

If the new charter will empower the people, why isn't a referendum being planned so that the People can decide if they want it?

That was done with the 2007 Charter, albeit passed by only 51% and should have required a super majority.

There will be no referendum for the 2015 Charter because the charter is intended to only empower the NCPO and elitists' hold over Thai society while it hobbles the People's right to govern themselves. It is significant that the two largest political parties in Thailand (PTP and Democrats) jointly predict rejection of any charter that is not legitimized by a public referendum.

Gen. Prayut will be a democratic soldier without a democratic country. Better the country be democratic without the soldier.

He has not specified which people will be empowered.

It sure as hell ain't gunna be the 50 million poorest Thais

The article probably did not report the entire quote. What he actually said to the group of businessmen was that the constituion would empower the people of Thailand, that were in this room...

"The New Charter Will Surely Empower the 'Right' People"

A truly empowered population would not need to worry about another Coup - Wouldn't it?

........even the first draft of the Constitution has been completed, come on in people, and see what we have written. Give us your opinions, even tho

nothing will be changed, it is as stated the first draft has been completed.

CDC, Thailand's hub of trustworthiness. You can trust us, promise.
