I certainly don't like the look of some of those Russian chaps, one see's in Phuket,or Jomteinski[the one and only time i went there], awful looking bruisers, probably ex-spetnaz,,now working for the Mafia, after all Thailand does seem to have a plethora of ex special forces, spy's ect among it's ex pat community.

If you have commited A crime in your life, then went to jail you paid for the crime. If you've done that then you are not A

Criminal.Your then an ex criminal. Then you are legal to visit Thailand and most other countries. And if your an ex drug dealer why would the authorities believe your smuggling drugs? Many people stop being stupid sometime in their life.

A criminal by definition is someone who has committed a crime.

You may wish to see the Immigration Act of 2522 regarding entry into Thailand.

Yes mr jd, I believe there's be a few ex crims that would fall foul of that. ;) Edited by neverdie

What if the crimes you commit in your home country aren't crimes in Thailand?

For example

Wife beating is a fairly serious criminal offense in the UK, but in Thailand it's perfectly acceptable.

@xen

Prostitution is not illegal in Thailand. (why do so many people repeat this old rubbish?)

I have a close friend named Shiloh who spent 30-years in Federal Max. Prison in America. Now in Thailand, has 4 bank accounts and gets 100,000 baht in each account every month from friends he didn't rat on. He will never tell you his real name in person, lives modestly, and travels quite a bit. He tells some people he was a mechanic and got inheritance, others a totally different story. Tattoos are hidden, some changed, and even takes courses on how to act (so to get rid of any tells from prison). you might catch him in thailand a few months out of the year.........

Doesn't seem worth it - 30 years is a long time and he'll probably see the 400k a month for a short time.

Any country that seeks to imprison or otherwise impede your personal or financial freedom, is the real criminal

Leaving that country is not fleeing justice, it is preserving your sovereign right as a free man, to live freely

This JD says that until you know the difference between there they're and their, you might not deserve the money.

I was hoping for some stories. Obviously there's plenty of ex cons in LOS, how's it working out for these guys and gals.

Can't be easy, you know as they say, once a con always a con.

i'd say you are a product of the society that raised you. moving to thailand is like moving to an inactive post.

there are no all encompassing rabid farang grannies network in thailand so i am unlikely to re-offend.

"i'd say you are a product of the society that raised you. moving to thailand is like moving to an inactive post"

The Nature Nurture Debate has been going on for many years!

Andrew Drummond writes about nefarious farang characters in Thailand almost daily, like the type you are alluding to in your post, and presumably want people to comment on. I am surprised you did not make the connection between Drummond and your post.

I still don't join the cliques, and when you're not in, you're out. I get that.

Does smoking weed in Thailand years ago, very stealthily, away from tourist areas count? To me no, to you yes, and we shall agree to disagree.

No. I was being lazy....on the phone here. I know who Drummond is I just hadn't read his blog of late and I thought you were inferring that I was referring to some particular story on his site......which I was not.

Anyway, now that we've cleared that up, I am only perplexed by your clique comment ? Something I said or didn't say ...... eerrrrr.

Re the clique comment - Like usual when I assume something about other, the bloody assumption is normally wrong on my part. Sorry about that neverdie. I like you even more now than in a previous incarnation..giggle.gif

The reason I have an interest in your topic is I foolishly believed that some of the "bad guys" would come on TV and fess up.

I do have an expat acquaintance in Phuket (a sort of friend I keep at a distance, now that I don't drink anymore) that if I believe what he has told me after several beers, who he killed, etc..when he loosens up, he would fit the profile of your post like a velvet glove. Me, I got up to stupid stuff in Thailand the first several trips 10 years ago, like "accidently" picking up a "realistic-looking" kathoeywhistling.gif.. all minor league stuff though..

Th expat guy still likes to drink and butterfly, I grew out of that quite quickly..not because I'm such a nice guy, it was depressingcheesy.gif

Cheers
