Swift code or BIC

Recommended Posts

My Australian bank requires the above code. Does each branch have a different code? I have the 8 letter code for the Bangkok Bank in Bangkok but want to transfer money to a Nakhon Si Thammarat branch. Thanks in advance for any info. Yuwi.

A SWIFT code is the standard identified of BIC...in other words they are basically one in the same...more of a terminology thing. Link

For Bangkok Bank their SWIFT / BIC code is BKKBTHBK. If your Oz bank wants a 11 digit code just added XXX to previous mentioned code...those last three digits in a 11 digit SWIFT code represent the particular branch. However, Bangkok Bank don't use individual SWIFT codes for all their many branches, expect one called the Bond Trading branch in Bangkok...don't use that one.

When your money arrives Bangkok Bank headquarters they now exactly what branch it needs to be deposited in by the first three numbers of of your Bangkok Bank account number as those first three numbers represent your branch (but remember, don't use those numbers in the SWIFT code)...and the rest of the number rounds out your account number at that branch. This allows Bangkok Bank HQ to deposit the funds directly into your account at one of their many branches.

See this Bangkok Bank regarding their SWIFT code/transferring money to them. Link
