Disabled lottery vendors protest against lottery sale at convenience stores

BANGKOK: -- Over 100 disabled lottery vendors camp outside the Government House public service centre Tuesday as their leader, Santisuk Polsawing, submits a petition on their behalf calling for a greater quota of lottery tickets and opposing the plan to sell lottery tickets via convenience stores and automatic vending machines.

The group also suggested that the exorbitant retail price of the lottery tickets stemmed from the insufficient supply to meet consumer demand; however, this could be remedied, they said, if the government produced more tickets and gave the disabled vendors an increased quota.

Drought blamed for contraction of agricultural economy in Q1

BANGKOK, 24 March 2015 (NNT) - Thailand’s agricultural economy growth rate in the first quarter 2015 contracted by 1.5% compared to the same period last year, mainly due to worse drought.

Secretary-General of the Office of Agricultural Economics Lersak Riewtrakunphaibun said drought which started late 2014 until early 2015 was the main cause of the negative agricultural economic growth. Drought decreased the water volumes of major dams in the country, affecting cultivation of many crops in Chao Phraya and Mae Klong river basins, said Mr Lersak.

As for the tendency of the Thai agricultural economy growth rate for the whole year, the official said it would likely stand at -1.8 to -0.8%. The sectors expected to contract include crops and agricultural service while livestock and fishery will likely expand.
