MOVED to Travel

I'm going to Australia for 9 days

A short stay in a monastery sounds like a good option.

Take a trip down to Railey or Tonsai beach. No songkran there.

Vietnam....you wont be dissapointed.

Kuala Lumpur

Man up and buy a water pistol.

Actually with the exception of Chawang, Samui w00t.gifbah.gif

.....most other parts of Samui, is really not that bad, usually done in one afternoon, (usually Sunday) some areas there is nothing much to worry about!

Keeping off the ring road for a few hours, between Maenam and Bophut / Chawang, is not that difficult... (or Lamai area) wink.png

Man up and buy a water pistol.

Buy a real pistol and when the guy with a water cannon approaches pull your pistol and say "Make my day" ha ha ha

I did that one year in a village. The only opposition was two boys with a barrel of water. I was no match for them with my water pistol. It was a blast.

As for where to go come to Chiang Mai we will show you a real good time.tongue.png

Stay home and sort out your sock drawer and that space in the cabinet under the kitchen sink that you haven't touched in years. Have a drink or two from what you stockpiled in anticipation of Songkran. Read a book. Download a movie. Weed the garden or re-pot some plants on the balcony, Have another drink or two. Take a nap. You deserve it. Cook something complicated while having a drink or two. Coerce the cat into eating some of what you just cooked. Offer it a drink. Put the rest of what you cooked in the bin and try something simpler.

Take the car (after you slept off the drinks or two) or ask a friend with a car to take you to one of the malls with enclosed parking. Have a meal. Buy something with money you saved by not leaving the country.

options April 11-19 escape

The serious chaos only lasts a couple of days if you avoid the touristy places where most of it is caused by drunken farang.

You have te whole world to choose from apart from Thailand and maybe a few other places. Europe, North America, Australasia. Just look at a map. Plenty of choice.

I'm going to Cambodia...flights and hotels are still cheap...I booked yesterday

Vietnam....you wont be dissapointed.

I want to visit there as well...any recommendations?

Know that you need to apply for a letter - in advance of departure - that gives you permission to obtain a visa on arrival.

Maybe the poster is older than 12 years?, come to Bkk, the stupidity is largely over in 3 days

I am travelling down to Mae Pim.

You mean "child up, and buy a water pistol". I was 9 years old a long time ago. No need to do it again. Hopefully after 9 maturity kicks in somewhere, but not for all apparently.

Yes, no water fights in Phnom Penh. Not much of anything else either as the city pretty much closes down over Songkran. You can survive, however. There will be the odd bar and restaurant open.

Isn't it a sad state of affairs when we are all looking for an escape from the horrors of Songkhran!?? What idiot decided 10 days was a good idea? ... and how did it ever get so out of hand that people die and thouands are injured every year ????

Vietnam....you wont be dissapointed.

Depends what you like, I've been working in Saigon for four years on and off and love the place. Plenty to do, nice bars and restaurants and the girls are cute too. If you like beaches, try Da Nang, Hoi An or Nha Trang although Nha Trang is the closest to Saigon if you fly into there. You can also try Vung Tau, about 2 hours south of Saigon and a good spot if you like the company of the girls similar to the beer bars in Thailand. Go for it whatever you like, I'm sure you'll enjoy it ... nice breath of fresh air after so long in Thailand.

I stay holed up at home during daylight hours. I might do an afternoon of water with the neighbours just to show willing, which is okay when dressed in the appropriate attire. I'm one of those that dislikes being bucketed when I'm not dressed for the occasion and might have a laptop/phone or something on me.
