Cambodia's aviation authority to monitor Thai safety concerns

BANGKOK: -- Cambodia will take a "softer approach", stopping short of banning Thai carriers but will monitor to make sure Thai airlines comply with all regulations and requirements, according to Sin Chansereyvutha, spokesman for Cambodia's State Secretariat for Civil Aviation (SSCA).

According to The Phnom Penh Post, Sin said Cambodia’s aviation authority has no plan to follow the footsteps of some of Asia’s largest nations and ban new flighs from Thai-based carriers after an international audit raised “significant safety concerns” about the standards of Thailand’s aviation authority.

China, Japan, and South Korea blocked new flights and charters from Thai-registered airlines after the UN’s International Civil Aviation Organization raised concerns surrounding Thailand’s Department of Civil Aviation’s operational standards.

“SSCA will monitor this issue. We will make sure that Thai Airlines comply with all [sSCA] regulations and requirements,” he said.

Ang Kim Eang, president of the Cambodian Association of Travel Agents, said there would be no noticeable impact on the number of travellers between Cambodia and Thailand because of the issue, although he urged operators to “take safety standards seriously.”

You know your lacking when Cambodia is concerned here is a country where they feel it is safer to run through the jungles naked than let any Thai airliner fly over or to Cambodia.

Ok,,, this is too much already, the kettle ( Cambodia) calling the pot ( Thailand ) black,

as if the Cambodian airplanes are not falling down only by the grace of god, and not

because of good maintenances....

Perhaps the Cambodians might offer assistance to the Thai DCA, to show them how to run things better, in the spirit of friendship ? whistling.gif

Go on Cambodia, give the Thais a lecture on air safety. If I was Cambodian, I'd love it !! :)

Sounds like a wonderful opportunity for a contest. Who has got better mechanics ?

Like much else in Thailand, it seems to me, much of the Thai aviation industry was helped with massive American assistance during the Vietnam War. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm guessing that most of those Thais trained by the USAF and other American entities are now passing entirely out of the system--especially with Thailand's very self damaging 60 years old mandatory retirement age.
