NHRC Visits Terror Suspects Allegedly Tortured by Soldiers

BANGKOK - Director of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) says he has visited two of the four men who were allegedly tortured by soldiers during their detention at an army camp for terrorism charges.

The four men, who are currently awaiting court trial at Bangkok Remand Prison, told their lawyers they were beaten by military officers who detained them at a barrack for six days before transferring them to police in March.

NHRC chairman Niran Pitakwatchara said experts from Forensic Science Institute also accompanied him in yesterday's visit and took medical examination of the two prisoners.

Niran added that one of the two also showed him wounds that appear to have been caused by electrocution, but he stressed that more investigation is needed.

"We are waiting for an examination result from the Forensic Science Institute, which will be sent to the subcommittee of the NHRC for further deliberation," Niran said.

Though Niran declined to identify the prisoners he visited, it appears that he met with Sansern Sri-unruen, who told his lawyer in March that soldiers applied electric shocks to his thighs for "30-40 times" because he refused to confess to trumped-up terror charges.

If anyone ever deserves to be tortured it's these deluded sociopathic baby killers. No sympathy from me even if it is true.

The legislative, the executive and the judiciary branches all in one poster!!w00t.gif

Reminds me of the great man himself...................coffee1.gif

There is a huge difference in how we see detained criminals innocent or not.

In Thailand its like US you are guilty untill proven innocent.

We who live in EU are use to you are innocent untill proven guilty.

Now its all about how you see it.

Personally I am against anything that kills people and destroys the planet :D Peace out

Window dressing to show the current regime are a caring lot that are not afraid to be taken to task. What happened to the claims of the 2 charged with the British murders down south? They maid claims of torture but not sure what happened?

Amongst others it lead to this topic with 1130 replies

At first sight the picture which accompanies this story has nothing whatsoever to do with the content. So why use it? I kept looking and the penny dropped.

Clearly no photograph of the alleged torture was available. Even if it had been, no Thai newspaper would dare use it.

So some enterprising picture editor raids the newspaper library for a shot which could be used to symbolize the human rights abuses complained of.

The results are pretty impressive.

We have guys in uniform representing the military (yes, they’re police, but what the hell),.men in civvies who could easily be NHRC officials - plus enough dodgy electrical gear around to shock the living daylights out of anybody.

But the real clincher the illuminating image of the cop on the right holding a torch. It doesn’t take much imagination to see what is being hinted at.

Torch. . . torcher. . . yep, you’ve got it.

And some of you think Thais are thick!

for reference as some posters seem to be confused about the people (most likely) visited by the NHRC

The four men, Sansern Sri-unruen, Charnvit Jariyanukul, Norapat Luepol, and Wichai Yoosuk, have been accused of participating in a terror plot to "creat chaos" and incite an intervention from the United Nations by staging bomb attacks around Bangkok.

Police say the network was also responsible for the grenade attack at the Criminal Court on the night 7 March. No one was injured in the explosion, which caused minor damages to the court’s parking lot.

errrr, no babies, but definitely a parking lot in the photo above. biggrin.png

An example of transparency by the current government is by this article being reported on by the media.

If these reports of torture are true them one can be assured Prayuth will ensure the culprits are punished to the full extent of the law.

I love the above comment by the way. So PTP logic.

When the Junta hide and cover up claims of torture and refuse the NHCR to visit the comments are "This lack of transparency and not allowing NHCR to visit the victims shows the Junta are guilty"

When the Junta do not hide this report, do not cover up the story and allow the NHCR to visit the comments are "Window dressing to show the current regime are a caring lot that are not afraid to be taken to task"

These are the types of comments that show why reform is needed. It is time to leave the bitter and twisted negative views in the shadows of the dark past were they belong.

Yes, Killing a parking lot is a capital offense in LOS, just killing people you get off with light sentences, especially if you drive a Lamborgini, Lotus, or are a 16 yo HI-SO talking on a cell phone while driving.coffee1.gif

I see you're going with presumption of guilt.

Fine, fine. blink.png

Is there a presumption of innocence when you are caught in the act of throwing explosive devices around, even into empty car-parks?

True, true, just some innocent fun in the night. Nothing serious, happens all the time.

Mind you, it would seems this type of fun is against the law and not only in Thailand.
