Internal trade dept. to closely monitor product prices on Songkran holiday

BANGKOK, 5 April 2015 (NNT) - Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade Bunyarit Kanlayanamit will travel to the Mo Chit Bus Terminal to inspect prices of goods on 10 April in the department’s effort to prevent shops from increasing prices or taking advantage of consumers during the coming Songkran long holiday.

The department will send its “1569” mobile units to the bus terminal to receive complaints about price hikes.

Apart from the Mo Chit Bus Terminal, internal trade officers will be sent to inspect product prices at crowded places on Songkran days such as the Hua Lam Phong Station. In other provinces, provincial internal trade offices will keep monitoring prices of goods and food at rest areas along the roads.

Food and beverages are the products the department is keen to check prices after there were complaints that some shops sold more expensive food and did not place price on their products on a long holiday.

This is a oxymoron and just a game played for the gallery to keep the "happiness for the people"

they will go out and say that it is now OK.....

The same way they say that there has not been any increase in the food prices for the past 3 years.... and that is so untrue...

Well the prices have not gone up... so in one sense they are right... but, hey nobody monitors the content (weight or volume) that you get for the same money.

every thing is cut down.... but the price stays the same.... bah.gif

Yes this is my biggest complaint to. Anything in bags or boxes is only half full or less. Fruit stands are up 50% on sliced fruit. Bottled water is up and of course beer. Every time I turn around in the grocery store something is up in price or the package is almost empty. The almost empty part is my biggest bit*h. Where is the government you know the Peace and Happiness squad when it comes to this outright thievery. They keep spouting that there is no inflation here in Thailand well guess what there is.

Another failed Junta economic policy.

Fifteen per cent of Thailand's GDP comes from DOMESTIC CONSUMPTION that generates profits that in turn supply capital for business growth. But the Junta has some perverse idea that it is for the good of Thai society to control price changes that effectively lead to lower profit margins. Between Thailand's worsening household debt and suppression of buiness profits, the economy will continue to sink.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday vowed that his government would do its best to ensure a strong economic performance this year, and told the business sector not to worry about the political situation. The Nation 2015-01-13
