mellyme02 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Hello,My father in law is currently in Vachira Phuket Hospital after breaking is neck at the villa he rented with his friends. I know it's a big ask, but is there any way that anyone from the expat community would have an old DVD player or some kind of entertainment that they could lend him while he's stuck in the hospital all alone please? My husband and I feel so useless here in the UK and really want to try and make this awful situation a bit better. Please let me know if you can help.Kind regards,Melanie Hughes
Satcommlee Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I don't know if you are tech savvy or not - but DVD players are old school... Maybe get a cheap tablet and ask for assistance in filling it full of movies for him... or get it on wifi and introduce him to YouTube..
mellyme02 Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 Hi I know dvd players are old school, its just there is no WiFi in the hospital so YouTube is a no go, and I figured someone would be more likely to be willing to lend a portable DVD player than a tablet. I wouldn't even know where to start to try and buy him one as I'm 6000 miles away in England so I was really hoping that someone would be kind enough to lend him something. Thanks
schlog Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 DVD players are cheap here. For 800-1000 Baht a nurse will buy one for him in a Lotus. Does he have movies? I will have a look today if i can find my old box with 100+ DVDs. Good luck for him.
Gregory Morozov Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I have an unused old IPad with 64Gb of storage, no movies inside though. Can lend it if someone is willing to put the movies in, I don't keep them these days...
NamKangMan Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I'm with schlog. If he is receiving medical attention, chances are, he has been to an ATM. Tell him to give some money to a nurse to go and buy one, and a dozen latest release DVD's, and for her to keep the change.
Gonsalviz Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 A large percentage of the nurses I have had (in hospitals) I would give my ATM card to if he is not able. I don't have and have never had the paranoia craze that most TV'ers have and amazingly enough never been ripped off but I would be checking the balance quickly just in case. There have been some real sweet people taking care of me. Last line edit. Of course any person from Pattaya would never get the chance. Not all Thai people are cons. People with real jobs have no real need to steal from an invalid. I trust real Thais over Americans over Europeans.
beechbum Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 "never been ripped off....Fate has just been tempted!

"I trust real Thais over Americans over Europeans." - "Of course any person from Pattaya would never get the chance." - are you saying the Thai's in Phuket are "real Thai's" and the Thai's in Pattaya are not????
