NRC, CDC to review draft constitution on April 9

BANGKOK, 7 April 2015 (NNT) - The National Reform Council (NRC) was scheduled to meet with the so-called Five Rivers to present reform and development proposals, as it prepares to hold meetings to review the draft charter with the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) beginning April 9.

NRC Second Vice President Tassana Boontong disclosed that the reform body is scheduled today to report at the Five Rivers meeting the progress of 36 reform projects and seven development projects. The NRC will then receive suggestions and opinions of related agencies.

The Five Rivers refer to the NRC, the CDC, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), the National Legislative Assembly, and the Cabinet.

The NRC has also affirmed its readiness to review the first draft of the new constitution. NRC and CDC will meet on April 9 to clarify details of the draft constitution, which the committee will submit to the reform body on April 17. The debate sessions are tentatively scheduled from April 20-26.

On the NCPO’s announcement to enforce Section 44 of the 2014 interim constitution, Dr. Tassana said that it will have no effect on the reform process. Instead, he believed the legislation will have a positive impact on national reform.
