After posting in any of the more general forums I only follow threads for a page or so - as many threads on TV degenerate into a pointless one on one spat by page 3.

I occasionally start typing a post, then once I'm about a paragaph in I think 'why even bother' so I press Alt-F4 which closes the current window and the post is gone.

I fully agree, I was wondering about this aspect myself recently and was trying to understand why, I wonder if the strength of the Baht is keeping them away.

after about seven years in this forum, I am beginning to get a feel of when and with whom I can have have a meaningful conversation and when I would be wasting my time.and should stay away.

I have been called ignorant and inadequate in the past, also accused of living in a hovel.(not true!) I can still remember the names of a few posters that did get banned eventually. Bendix was in a class of his own.

I self censor when it comes to politics and have a few times deleted a post. I self censor at home also, who doesn't?.

My mommy always told me it's best to stay quiet and let people think I'm retarded, than open my mouth and remove all doubt. I'm told I'm a very quiet person.

Let em bicker,bite,censor or otherwise,just keep away from my life and i'll return the compliment.

Talking about free speech on a website like this is just silly. You want to speak freely? Find your own place to do so. You want to post on a privately-owned forum? Then you have to abide by the rules you agreed to when you signed up.

There are some posters who seem to believe that every vacuous thought that enters their minds deserves to be aired in a dedicated thread - I don't think I need to name them

Of course but by the same token don't you think said rules should be applied evenly , what is a rule for one should be a rule for all ?

The fact is privately owned or not, it the members and their comments which have made a forum, without decent members a forum is nothing and without member's there are no sponsors
