Indian tourist robbed in Pattaya

Featured Replies

Pattaya, Chon Buri:- A 50-year-old tourist was robbed by five Thai hooligans on Pattaya Beach road early Thursday.

The five teenagers were described by local people as hooligans who have extorted money from local residents and foreign tourists on the Pattaya beach.

Pol Lt Siraphudet Chamnarnkit, an officer on duty of Pattaya police station, was alerted of the robbery at 1 am.

Siraphudet was informed that the tourist, who was later identified as Narandr Rajoo, was robbed in front of Soi 7 off the beach road in Tambon Nong Plua of Bang Lamung district.

Police rushed to scene and found Rajoo, who appeared drunk, with head wound and broken nose.

Rescuers of Sawang Boribun Pattaya Foundation provided first aid treatment for the tourist.

Rajoo told police that he was walking back to his hotel when the teenagers assaulted him and knocked him unconsciously. He said the teenagers took his cash in Thai and US bank notes worth Bt75,000 and his mobile phone while he was unconscious.

Wiphada Laosaeng, 35, who witnessed the robbery, told police that the five teenagers in black suddenly attacked Rajoo while he was walking at the spot.

Wiphada said one of the teenagers beat Rajoo until he collapsed while the four looked on. She saw the one, who assaulted Rajoo, pull out bank notes and mobile phone from the tourist’s trouser pockets.

The five fled the scene after they got the money and the mobile phone.

Local residents told police that the five teenagers often drank around the area and acted like hooligans to demand money from local people.

The gang is led by “Off the big foot” whose real identity has yet to be identified.

Why walk around with so much cash.... goodness gracious me..!! (said with head nodding) .cheesy.gif

You beat me to it. I was thinking the same thing.

should not be too difficult to locate a gang leader with a name/alais.as reported and as well known as this group seems to be.

even the rookie BIB should be able to find this eleusive fellow as the locals seem quite famaliar with the group and apparently pay them a few bob to stay off their hit list. the gang is probably drunk/dopped up, passed out from their ill gotten gains. they are probably in no condition to find a shade from the sun sop easy picking for the BIB.

Wasn't it under Taksin that lots of alleged drug pushers in Bangkok accidently got shot and died "resisting arrest".

Ooops sorry, I'm getting confused with the US.

It is a popular sport on Thaivisa to criticise Thai police, and deservedly so in many cases,, but we should realise that our own police forces are not squeaky clean either.

The guy's from India, he knows better than to trust the security of a hotel.

Agreed, but to go out after midnight in that area, after being on the piss with B75,000 in your pocket is a little unwise I'd say.

B10000 should have been more than enough for Beach Rd activities surely?

yes and 50% of the dead one had nothing to do with drugs...or more.....shooting random people isn't a solution to the drug problem

Let's see, breaking that down:

He carried $2,500 with him. And that was foolish. (I'd wager it it was safer on him than in most hotel room safes)

He walked around drunk in the wee hours in a strange city, and that would be okay- if he carried less cash.

Gotta wonder sometimes...
