Do the educated & better off Thais play Songran or is it just the brainless peasants?

My missus must be a brainless peasants cause she loves playing songkran.

Mine too.

The answer might be that Songkran is not just about what it might have degenerated into e.g. throwing water willy nilly.

Many Thais will celebrate with polite ceremonial sprinkling of perfumed water over Buddha images and respected elders.

Expats with limited exposure to that side of the festival might think that street celebration is all that it is, which is not the case, and celebrate is a better word than "play'.
