uptheos
Chiang Mai University, the local government and the private sector are joining forces to establish 14 bus routes across the northern parts of the city. This move to improve Chiang Mai’s public transport is in preparation for the expected influx of tourists following the AEC integration to be completed later this year. http://www.chiangmaicitylife.com/news/new-bus-routes-in-chiang-mai-to-deal-with-traffic-congestion/
daoyai
I don't see large buses to be the answer, they will clog the roads and probably run 10% full. Some sort of small, attractive vehicle similar to what they use at the zoo. They can be low powered as CM is mostly flat and urban traffic is slow.

uptheos
Thos red tuk tuks are nice Swamp, I mean really swamp Chiang Mai with those red tuk tuks which can take 4-5 people at a time. stop anywhere if they are not full and can go in and out of traffic unlike buses Ireckon a couple of hundred of those on fixed routes would do well at say 20 baht each like songtheaws
