farmerjo
You had enough of growing sugar Canada? How did your driptape and bores work out for you? I'm not in the market for another tractor but looks well maintained.
Canada
Yeah, I've had enough. It was a stupid idea. I can work for 3 months in Canada with no investment and earn more than I earn here all year doing this and I've got a lot tied up in this. Got rid of half the cane land already, and moving on the rest of it. ' Drip tape works fine, but still a big problem for such a large project. Better than the alternative of one guy on a pvc line moving around in the field. We had good success with our boreholes considering that none of them were what most people would call well done bores.
farmerjo
Stupid idea, its all fun at the start. Guess it comes down to the scale of operation and how stressed you want to be dealing with the thai workers growing sugar. I have a thai friend in the next village on a similar scale to you and his mother is still paying off his tractor. They finished the other day and the mother once again had to fork out for the workers wages. He's making money but forgets the difference between running a business account and a living account which is fine while mum continues to prop him up. I understand your pain with it as sugar did the same for me,alot happier growing corn these days.
Canada
How does corn profit compare to cane profit?Any easier to sell and transport? How many tons per rai of saleable corn?
farmerjo
How does corn profit compare to cane profit? Any easier to sell and transport? How many tons per rai of saleable corn? Still not enough profit compared to 3 months work in canada. On farm storage is the key to corn to bring moisture down to get best price. I sell to a wholesaler 35kms away. I work on 800kg/rai which is the national average.. But with a seeder.a boomspray and harvester you can do it yourself,no labour other than a truck to cart it away. If you have land with driptape down already you could easily do 2-3 crops a year..
Popular Post kickstart
Out some time ago and found this tipping trailer, first I have ever seen in Thailand, based a 6 wheel truck chassis, hydraulic pump is pto driven ,no need for spool valves.Ford tractors no problem ,other makes with no spool valves, would work well,I would say with a good set of tyres on it could haule 10 ton of maize, Guy said it cost 90 000 bart ,thinking of our Farmerjo ,with this ,you would be self sufficient ,I know 35 or 70 km round trip is a long way with a tractor and trailer (round here Ford 6610's haul 25 ton of cain all the time, some a good 20 km) , but ,it could be cost efficient, round here,a a 10 wheel truck hauling maize only 16 km cost is 2 000 bart sometimes more. With the weather being so unpredictable, finding a truck when you need one, crop not ripe only a few ton to harvest and haul For me the idea of doing everything myself is very appealing, and you are almost there.
