About 4,212 homes, mostly in Bangkok, are under police guardianship during the Songkran celebration, according to Deputy chief Pol General Pongsapat Pongcharoen. Thais had the chance to register their homes under the “Leaving Home with the Police” campaign.

Of the 4,212 homes under police care, approximately 1,470 are in Bangkok. The Provincial Police Region 1 will be taking care of 694 homes in the Central Plains provinces, the most in the country.

Police make routine patrols near the homes under their care and make records of their check-ins. The majority of homeowners say they plan to return home Wednesday, the last evening of the Songkran long weekend. Thus far, no disturbances or burglaries have been reported in homes that are being watched by police.

The Line chat app and QR Code system are being used to communicate with homeowners whose residences are being supervised by the Metropolitan Police Bureau. Once the Songkran festivities have ended, Pol General Pongsapat said the campaign will be evaluated as well as any theft and burglary cases.

Meanwhile, City Hall chief advisor Vallop Suqandee announced that Siloam Road will be closed on Wednesday, so Songkran celebrants can continue the fun. The area will close for clean-up at midnight.

And the only people who can benefit from this are the ones that can pay.

"...Thus far, no disturbances or burglaries have been reported in homes that are being watched by police..."

Of course not, the police would have to refund their incentive pay.
