Adept At Kubuntu

Featured Replies

Hi ,

I just added a resporitory in adept . It was the" deb "upfront missing, now i can't start adept any longer. I located the file with the list of repositories opened with Kate and am able to change what i want ....except one thing i am not root . Whenever i try to save the "repaired" respository i get the message that i don't have the "Rights" to do this....

anybody knows a workaround?

I am running kubuntu 6.06 ...

Thanks in advance,

rcm :o

Have you tried starting Kate from the command line using "kdesu kate"? This should allow Kate to save files that require root permissions.

Sulaphat , yes i did resolve it with kdesu kate ...found the advise on Kubuntu forum....but thanks anyways...

still found it a bit strange to have no "root' as such on kubuntu...but i am getting used to it.

One more thing i tried to run Thaisoftware Dictionary on Kubuntu but cant' get any Thai fonts to display...it is installed with Wine ...i did the same on suse but there it displays the thai fonts. Any suggestions?

thx,

rcm,

Here is a way to restore root logins in Kubuntu:

#sudo passwd root

Enter the password you would like for root.

Then you need to edit the file /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc.

#kdesu kate /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc

Then edit the part that looks like this.

# Allow root logins?

# Default is true

AllowRootLogin=false

Change "false" to "true", save and log out.

On the Thai font issue, have you installed Thai fonts using the font installer?
