Can I still go to the airport in BKK with an expired visa?

Featured Replies

Hello!
My visa runs out the end of May--I was hoping to put my big suitcase in storage at the airport and then fly out of the country for a few weeks at the end of my visa here (undecided at this point).

I would then want to fly back to BKK of DMK just to get my suitcases basically and leave from there to the States.

Can I still go into the airport with an expired Visa?

Sorry if this is a silly question----I just don't know all my options.

Thanks in advance!

To re-enter the country you will need a visa unless you qualify for a visa exempt entry or a visa on arrival. If you are from the states you will get a 30 day visa exempt entry so you should not have a problem.

In order to get to the part of the airport where baggage storage is you will have to clear immigration which you means you must enter the country.

You can go to the airport on an expired visa. Then at the airport they will fine you 500 Baht per day for over stay.

He is asking about re-entering the country not leaving.

Having an expired visa would not cause an overstay. An overstay is for overstaying your permit to stay.

When you leave your visa will be cancelled or expired. When you come back you will be issued with a 30 day visa exempt, go through customs, go to where you left your luggage and leave again. There will be no overstay.

Visa will be cancelled-expires when you leave, if its still valid at that time.

(Re-entry permits, at Immigration or Airports-Immigartion, protect against cancellation,

but are only useful, if Visa has still a significant period left.)

What kind of Visa do you have? 2 month Tourist Visa? 1 entry?

You could extand that Visa at a Thai Immigration office in Thailand for 30 days 1.900.- Baht and stay longer.

Seems you are from the USA.

Normally - most Western countries and USA get 30 days at arrival on airports, 2 weeks at land borders.

G 7 countries so also USA get 30 days on land borders to)

So if you come back and entry TH you should get 30 days allowance of stay

and you could extand also that stay for another 30 days at a Thai Immigration ro 1.900 B. for 30 days.smile.png

I know it's confusing, but visas do not have an expiry date. They only have a enter-by date, so providing your permission to stay has not expired (which is totally different to the visa), then the visa is still valid till you leave.

Many retired people are still here on a valid visa that was issued many years ago with a 12 month use-by date. As they renew their permission to stay, the visa remains valid even years after the enter-by date has elapsed.

The visa does not remain valid beyond it's enter before date if you apply for an extension of stay. All it is good for after that is to show you had a non immigrant visa entry.

I don't even have a visa in my new passport all I have is an annotation of it that shows I got a non immigrant visa entry.

I actually have a three month non-imm O visa. I originally came to Thailand to work for an NGO but that fell through. It is dated to end June 30th. I am wanting to travel around a bit and then come back to Bangkok to fly back to the States. I have a big suitcase because I thought I would be here a year so I was wanting to store it someplace in the airport while I traveled out of the country.

Your non-o is only valid for one entry. Having that visa in your passport will have no effect upon you entering the country again. You will get a 30 day visa exempt entry when you return.

After clearing immigration you can go get your bag and leave.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Most hotels let you store your luggage free.

The airport will cost you a fortune!
