The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has temporarily frozen roughly Bt40 million in assets belonging to Tarit Pengdith, former director-general of the Department of Special Investigation. The Commission made the decision to freeze the assets while it determines the source of Mr. Tarit’s wealth.

According to the NACC, a fact-finding committee found evidence that Tarit and his wife were hiding their assets and were, what they call, “unusually rich”. Sansern Polajiak, secretary-general of NACC, stated that the action taken against

Tarit was unrelated to recent corruption allegations. The NACC is merely trying to determine the source of Mr. Tarit’s “unusual” wealth.

Approximately Bt40 million worth of Tarit’s assets have been frozen by the NACC. Among those assets include cash from bank accounts, land title deeds, homes, vehicles, concrete buildings and two vehicles. Tarit and his family have 30 days to submit a retroactive asset declaration.

The NACC began investigating Tarit after receiving complaints from the public. Last October, a panel found that Mr. Tarit had withdrawn money from several bank accounts, changed ownership of the land he owned and transferred securities shortly after being replaced as director-general of the DSI. According to Mr. Tarit, his wealth has only risen Bt3 million over the last five years.

Another paper reported Khun Turncoat Tarit and his wife have thirteen bank accounts. Of course that's only in Thailand.

He asked for it... and he got it, but he got so much that he just couldn't hide it, or his house built on National Park land in Khao Yai. I think his money is gone for good now, just like his lovely little weekend retreat.

Did he follow the exiles example and transfer assets to the gardener? Only Chalerms prosecution and the revocation of the exiles passport could make me happier.
