Original NON-B expiration 7-day grace period?

Featured Replies

My first (and only) NON-B visa expires at the end of this month (April 2014). My flight back to the States is booked for May 3rd. I came across a post this website that stated: "You should be aware your "B" which was provided through your company is void from your last day and a new one is required. You have seven days to leave country or face an overstay an obtain a new tourist visa or B visa if your new company will provide documents." The post is many years old now and I am wondering if there is still (or ever was) a 7-day grace period (meaning i won't be charged four days of overstay when I try to leave) or do I have to a.) buy a 7-day extension or B) cancel the WP and extension and make a border run to Mae Sai?

There is no "grace" period" If you want an additional 7 days that must be applied for at an immigration office . 1900 Bht

The silly thing is you have to travel all the way to the immigration office that your address governed by, not the nearest one. My friend just got stung with an over-stay as his school said they had sorted everything out for him but they had not. His contract ended on the 31st of March and his flight out because he thought he was all good was on the 16th of April. I did not know this until I asked to see his passport and I knew it was too late to go to an Immigration office. He left Thailand on the 16th and paid the fine at the airport, no problems from the immigration officers as I told him to go straight to them and show them he made a mistake and that he had the money to pay the fine. No black listing on his passport and took about 5 minutes to sort out.

To the OP: The expiration date, ie the "enter before" date, of your visa is irrelevant. It is the expiration date of your permission to stay that matters.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Yes, look at the last immigration stamp you received and check the "must leave the kingdom" (or however it may worded) date. Quite often permission to stay extends past the "use by" date printed on the visa sticker you received at an embassy or consulate.
