Popular Post lopburi3
Actually there are none - holidays in the US are a state matter and vary greatly - there are only 10 yearly observed Federal holidays that are also observed by all the states. In Thailand the number is 16. There are no national holidays on which all businesses are closed by law. Federal holidays are only established for certain federally chartered and regulated businesses (such as federal banks), and for Washington, D.C. What can be argued is that most Thai do not work a 5 (or less) day week so having more holidays helps to make up for that to some extent (for those that actually get them - many do not).

Royal Ploughing day is normally not an official holiday, with maybe the exception for Bangkok. I believe the government sometimes closes government institutions on that day to relieve the traffic in BKK. So you might want to check BKK-immigration, but elsewhere it should be business as usual. Mario2008
indeed marked as a holiday. Strange as I remember seeing the ceremony on TV at school a year or two at school, which means it wasn't holiday.

What a silly comment ! Check out the huge list of Public Holidays available in the USA ! http://publicholidays.us/ Stop begrudging the Thais a couple of days leave. What are you talking about? The United States has like 6 days federal public holidays a year (when I worked there). Even employers are not obligated by any law requiring them to give their staff the day off or pay them if they do not work. Contrast with Thailand's official holidays + the "approved additional" holidays which number around 16 days a year, there is no question why worker productivity and GDP per capita is 10 times higher in the United States compared with Thailand. And probably always will be.

slipperylobster
Who cares about immigration having a holiday...when you can just do your reporting at 7 Eleven? Tywais
May 1 is a public holiday but believe it is still not a government holiday (as always tainted with Communist stain). But not sure as it may have changed in status. It is not a government holiday as immigration is open and government schools are open (my school has never closed for labor day in the many years working there). It is a banking holiday and private companies/businesses may let their employees off as it is labor day. So for laborers, yes it is a long 5 day holiday. Believe there is some confusion in the articles themselves. BOT Banking Holidays Although the annual, May 1st, National Labour Day non-working public holiday of Thailand is not observed by the Government sector of Thailand, the aforementioned declaration of Monday, May 4, 2015, as an additional, one-off non-working public holiday in Thailand, does apply to the Thai government sector, and will be in addition to the official list and dates of the bank holidays and non-working public holidays in Thailand, for the calendar year 2015, which were announced this past summer (13-Jul-2014). OJAS
On a different tack, does anyone know for sure whether or not the British Embassy will be open next Monday and Tuesday? The 4th and 5th of May are not included in the list of 2015 dates on the GOV.UK website when they will be closed, which I find surprising: https://www.gov.uk/government/world/organisations/british-embassy-bangkok/office/british-embassy-bangkok#public-holidays I'll be mailing them an application for my latest income confirmation letter this week, and would like to know whether or not I can include next Monday and Tuesday in calculating the Embassy's 10-working-day processing period. CMBob
There's a full slate of appointments on the online queue for Chiangmai Immigration for May 4th so I would expect them to be open. Last year in January I unknowingly got an appointment for May 1st (not realizing it was Labor Day) but happily found the Chiangmai office open and doing business as usual. If CM Immigration isn't open Monday, there'll be some teed-off people who in January stayed up after midnight to snag one of those May 4th appointments. The 4th May was only very recently designated by the Cabinet as a "fill-in" public holiday between the weekend and Coronation Day (Tuesday the 5th) - long after it was possible to make online bookings at Chiang Mai Immigration for that day, presumably. So I fear that your only option might be to have to go there bright and early on Wednesday the 6th. Edited April 28, 2015 by OJAS

I would guess immigration made the report date the same as the date your extension ends There are many offices doing it that way if you next report would be after you extension ends. Mine did it last year so I just did my application and report 2 weeks early on the same day.
