FILO Pastry in CM

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just moved back with the family to CM after 7 years

My Thai wife has become quite the cook for western food during our 7 years in Oz

Few things she cannot find, even in Rimping is the frozen fill pastry she uses to make sausage rolls with. Has anyone seen this available anywhere?

The other product she is keen to find is fresh pasta pastry for making Lasagne

Any ideas or help on this would be much appreciated as both myself and the kids are missing her food after been back for nearly 3 months now

Cheers

JT

Had the same problem when we came back too.

Years ago, Rimping staff would go to great lengths to try and get product, even order it in.

Sadly, those days have gone. They used to stock "Birdseye" Baby Peas. Then they ran out, that was a few years years ago. We were, over the next year or so, given every excuse in the book....Floods in BKK, was used for at least a year, then they came up with all manner of reasons till we gave up asking. Found that TESCO LOTUS has their own brand IMPORTED from New Zealand and they are very good.

If you find the FILO or Puff Pastry please let me know, I'll do the same for you.

I very much doubt it's filo pastry that you're looking for to make sausage rolls. Filo is used for things such as baklava and spanakopita. You probably want puff or flaky pastry both of which are traditionally used for sausage rolls.

Have you looked at Villa Market in Chiang Mai? I'm in Udon but yesterday I saw filo pastry sheets in the frozen food case at our local Villa Market. I would think that both locations would carry similar products.

I get my puff pastry sheets at Makro.

Why buy it?...especially pasta...its very very easy to make yourself.

Pasta...

PS.... Plain Flour is called General Purpose flour here.

If she finds puff or flaky pastry hard to make, try using short crust pastry...easy.

Filo...

Puff...

Short...

While making pasry i've tried using various fats like, lard, butter, and oil

but because its so hot in Thailand i didnt get good reults with these....

The best thing i have found to use is Yacht Brand Margerine, Good results

every time....Big C sell it.

I've found the other brands of margerine dont taste so good.

Have a Nice Day.

If you have a Big C Extra, look in the French Products chilled area (where they have the Casino branded Meats etc) You should see Pate Feuilletee.... thats Puff Pastry. If you want shortcrust it is Pate Brisee.

Makro also normally stocks it.

Hi Everyone

Thanks so much for all the info.

Will be heading to Makro and Big C to check out the puff pastry.

My wife will also be having a shot at making her own pasta after watching the videos.

She did however ask has anyone seen 1. A Domestic Bread Machine and 2. Pasta Maker in the shops.

Once again thanks so much.

She has been asked to help with the family resort in Mae Hong Son making Western food. Its just been bit of a challenge getting setup.

Ive tried sourcing western wholesalers, such as the Sausage King etc but other ingredients are becoming more of a challenge.

We will get there in the end I guess.

Thanks again

JT and Wife

If you want shortcrust it is Pate Brisee.

Are you sure about that? Pâte brisée is sweetened with sugar.

You're probably thinking of pâte sucrée. Pate briséecan have a little sugar in it if you are using it to make a fruit tarte, but not much and it's strictly optional. It's the basic dough for quiche among lots of other things.

I was at Yok today and they have lots of different kinds of pasta machines - manual and automatic.
