I think the BBC got it about right with this comment:-

The American was caught with the odd good shot, but was quicker throughout and always looked in control.

The judges scored the fight 118-110, 116-112, 116-112.

already reports of rioting in Manilla and ....pay per view users in Baltimor, just kidding but really, the only way either guy could loose is if they got hurt so no chance of that ...big payout without pain....

Have any of you ever actually boxed?

What do you expect of a fight at this level at this weight?

I'm no fan of Mayweather, but all he had to was use his tactics and defend. On points you would have to be mental to give it to Pacquio.

Most of those "punches" that Mayweather threw/landed were jabs.

Boring fighter.

Perhaps Boxing needs a rule change. Otherwise, boring fighters like Mayweather are going to kill the sport.

Or at least give points to the aggressor and not the boxer that's backpedaling most of the night.

Tough to give points to the "aggressor" when he's getting tagged all night long on his misses.

I don't know what was worse - Jamie Foxx's rendition of the anthem or the fight. Both painful.

I haven't seen the fight yet but I'm willing to wager that Mayweather spent a majority of the fight backpedaling instead of moving forward.

Fighters like him make for boring fights. They backpedal, fight off of the ropes, throw some counter punches near the end of the round to "steal" points, etc.

I sure miss Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Leonard and other real fighters, not track stars.

Packman received more than 4 million a round for standing up...and getting jabbed on the nose. Not bad salary

Can go back home with pride. No knockout. Mayweather went easy on him.....

yeah..not much to see

It seems that you can run and hide and grab and duck and weave all night :( Mayweather was the better Boxer under the rules, but IMO Pacman is still the better Fighter. If they had both actually fought (or been forced to fight), I think Pacman would have won. And if anyone thinks that Mayweather's tactics were not to run/hide and jab/counter and win on points - you are dead wrong. Only one guy came to fight by beating the other guy - TMT came to win on points by avoiding the other guy (and to take the money). When there was 10 seconds on the clock TMT held his arm up and started to run - he knew he had won and couldn't lose. His whole game plan was to win on points by avoiding a fight - it was not to actually fight. Like a previous post said, I also think the rules need to be changed - after all it should be about entertainment. Imagine TMT versus TMT - that would be too painful to watch. But Pacman versus Pacman - now that is entertainment. Given that boxers like TMT will never 'fight' unless they are forced to do so, then I reckon there is one simple rule change that would make their run and hide 'tactic' far less likely to succeed, and make most trainers teach their young fighters to actually fight. That would be to ban grabbing and holding from round 1 to 10 - one warning and then loss of a point on any repeat that round. And after round 10, no warning - immediate loss of a point. Boxers like TMT do what they do because they know that if they ever get 'caught' they can grab/hold. Ducking and weaving is fine - that takes skill and TMT is very good at it - but being able to grab/hold when hit or about to be hit should be banned. Anyway, I sure hope there is another fight between them - but I doubt if TMT will allow it. Never say never, but if there is a next time, Pacman will know he can't wear him down and catch him in the late rounds, so he will come out all guns blazing and go for a knockout from round 1 - all or nothing from the go. Now that could be entertaining :)

Like it or not that's Mayweather's style and the points decision was never going to be in question.

Not an entertaining fight, Packman surely knew he needed to do much more if he was ever going to have a chance of winning.

At the finish, Mayweather looked like he'd been for a stroll around the park and could go another 12 rounds.

He could hammer away all night at Mayweather's arms held aloft, but he wouldn't score any points.

It's not possible just to give points based solely on aggression, regardless of which direction you're traveling.

Regarding those jabs, they land squarely, they score points and they hurt!! Don't think just because it's a jab it isn't hurting or destroying their soul......go back and look at some of Ali's 'jab' fights.....awesome.

Here is a good reading of Mayweather's style.

'Some people found his way of winning boring, and even contrary to the spirit of prizefighting. He chased points instead of knockouts. He wasn’t the only boxer who found success with a defensive style. Pernell Whitaker, Willie Pep, Andre Ward — there were other boxers who had won by not losing. But Mayweather was the best at it. He drained the blood from a fight. Instead of aggression, he offered mastery. Instead of the thrill of violence, banality. Instead of fighting, boxing.'

Interestingly, written by a woman - Louisa Thomas. The whole of her article can be found here. It is worth reading.

Because it's pretty much what I expected to happen and said so on the 2nd page of this thread a few days ago.

But you'd a thunk that Pacman would have come out guns blazing this time. They both knew this was "IT."

It's amazing. Some ring-side tickets at the MGM Grand cost $300,000 a seat for that so-called "fight". Could have helped a lot of starving people in Nepal.

Instead of changing the rules of a sport that's been around for over two hundred years how about boxers just learning how to cut off the ring and fight a different style that will give you a better chance of winning? Any boxer who can't do that doesn't deserve to win.

Pac go beaten by better boxer, 1/3 of the thread smacks of sour grapes.

Pac lost. get over it already!

Mayweather won the fight...Fact. Mayweather gets the bigger purse....fact. Mayweather is a better boxer...debateable. Mayweather is a better sportsman...debateable.

Maybe it's the tall poppy syndrome but it appeared (on the television) that even in his home country, Mayweather is not liked. I don't think his style of boxing has helped him win fans but he is not necessarily there to do that. He knows the rules and is very apt at using them to get the win. Boring it maybe, but it got him the result he wanted.

I think the vast majority ringside wanted to see Pacman knock Mayweather out.....but Floyd was too smart and quick to get caught. We saw two very different styles of boxing today, one entertaining and the other very clinical. I have to give credit where it's due and Mayweather did what was required of him to secure the undefeated title. Boring yes but it got the result.

Manny will always have a better following/fan base as he is more exciting to watch. He also has that rascal look about him, or the cheeky smile that endears people to like him. I like the guy and he's very humble with it.

Floyd on the other hand has a lot to learn in those stakes, but with 120million from just this fight, I doubt that he'd give a flying rats about what people think of him.

I'd like to see a re match but at this stage in both their careers am not sure if the result would change a great deal. I expect to see retirements being announced soon.

I think Mayweather said he will fight one more time in September as part of his TV/etc. contracts. $$$thumbsup.gif $$$.

Mayweather stalled and delayed until Pac was a washed up fighter.

It's a shame the fans didn't get to see this fight go off 5 years ago.

At least there are still some young women for Mayweather to smack around, as they seem to be the only opponents he won't dodge and will go toe to toe with them...

Or maybe not:

But is a re-match viable?? Who would be stupid enough to watch 2 talented guys avoiding being hit? Good luck to them both but it isnt entertainment.

At least if Amir Khan gets at Mayweather he will talk a good fight for weeks beforehand.....

While others support a woman-beating thug who runs from a man when he's in the ring.

Bravo. Well done.

You must be really proud of him and his run like a punk boxing style.

Put them in a 15' ring and see how great of a boxer he is when he has nowhere to run and hide.

At least Pac didn't run scared like a little b!tch.
