Twenty years in Thailand and know I cannot get it, Thainess and true to Farangness is still a mystery.

No this is not a Thai bashing thread, it is a philosophical one which requires no answer; there is not one.

We have lived in our house for over twelve years now and in a way I am part of the neighbourhood, but the Farang.

One neighbour used to hate the soi dogs; cannot say I am much endeared to them, excepting I know which is which and when they were born and which dog sired them; not rocket science.

I have a dog, a bitch, she only ever goes out with me, but prefers running around our not too small garden.

I had another bitch before, one crazy dog; leave the gate open for a second and she was off.

My son left the gate open. She ate poisoned bait and frothed to death.

I knew who put the bait out, easy, the soi dog hater. He enjoyed shooting at them with a powerful air gun.

Fair enough , he hated dogs.

Now he has a dog, a status symbol breed all the rage in Thailand and puts food out for the soi dogs!

buhi, you are right......I didn't get it.

May be I'm not into philosophy, but have to say that I'm sorry about your bitch.

As about your neighbour.....people do change......

I used to hate ladyboys now I love them and feed them whenever the opportunity arises.

Hence the move to Pattaya...more feeding options....

Hardly philosophical, more like mind reading needed, if your an evolved being to some degree you would know that someone changed, why? god knows, who cares? not me, why do i answer? because im not a mind reader so you should state whats buggin you.,

It can be the same for foreigners in other countries. I know people that have lived in UK for years and still don't get the British sense of humor and other British things. I think to know some things you need to have lived in the country since you were very young. Some things you have to experience from the start or you will never get it. But I think most farangs don't try to integrate. They hope to get it as an outsider. But it would still be difficult even if they did integrate.

Hang out only with Thai people, talk Thai, etc and you might get it. This is what Thais do. Spend half your time with farangs and talking English and you're missing half of everything.

Also, I guess many farangs just don't want to get it. They like the farang way of doing things and the farang way of thinking, so would never give anything Thai a chance. So they would never get it. That's fine if that's what you want. I'm happy not to get it, as I still don't get the way many Brits are. You don't have to get everything in life.

Apparently ladyboys are not bottoms for most customers, according to Stickman.

I only hang out with Thai people, there are no foreigners where I / we, Thai family live.

The person referred to I have known for twelve years and I voiced my disapproval to him about shooting at the strays. The soi dogs live much nearer our home than his and rarely venture near his house as other neighbours dogs own the territory.

I have asked my wife to get someone to remove them, but as she correctly stated, they do no harm and actually guard our house, which is why she sometimes feeds them. I then, had to agree.

I am pleased that said person has changed his attitude, but such a 360 degree change puzzled me.

I guess now he owns a dog, he has developed a better understanding of them.

Our soi dogs are not a menace, are not vicious, or friendly, just keep to themselves on a plot of wasteland adjacent to our house.
