Jai Dee
Consumption of bio-diesel from oil palm continues to be promoted The Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Energy ministries are pushing for more consumption of bio-diesel which is produced from oil palm. Charan Trinwuthipong (จรัล ตฤณวุฒิพงศ์), assistant to the Agriculture and Cooperatives minister, said the ministry is checking with oil producers their bio-diesel production target to calculate the amount of oil palm supplies. Dr. Charan said contract farming may be made with oil palm growers to ensure adequate supplies. Pornchai Rujiprapa (พรชัย รุจิประภา), energy deputy permanent-secretary, said the ministry has asked bio-diesel producers to turn to use oil palm instead of used cooking oil as raw material. So far, 50,000 tons of oil palm have been bought by those factories, causing its price to jump from 2.10 baht a kilo to 2.70 baht, Mr. Pornchai said. Mr. Pornchai said six new bio-diesel production plants will also be opened next year.
