Phuket Couple’s 72-hour Nightmare in the Nepal Mountains Is Coming to an End

Featured Replies

A Phuket couple, owners of Blue Label Diving, spent the last 72-hours trying to flee Nepal after the earthquake. The couple was in the mountains near Mt. Everest when the earthquake hit the region.

The couple said that after the earthquake, they lost all communication to the outside world. They tried to call for help, but the cellphone lines were all down. Eventually, contact was made with Phuket News through Facebook.

Seeking refuge in a teahouse, the couple didn’t realize the extent of the damage until cupboards started falling over. The couple quickly grabbed survival gear and spent the next 9 hours going through landslides.

The couple states that they had to hide in random shelters before having to run and walk through disaster zones trying to remain safe. Still stuck in Nepal, the couple last reported that they have at least 24 hours before they will be able to leave the country. Communication is only able to be made through a cellphone when satellite connections are not down.

Still dealing with aftershocks, the couple is desperately trying to get back to Thailand. The last announcement made was that Thai Airways has the couple scheduled for a flight on April 30th back to Bangkok.
