Thousands in other cities protest death of Baltimore man
By AMANDA LEE MYERS and DAVID DISHNEAU

BALTIMORE (AP) — Thousands of people hit the streets in Baltimore and several other cities from Boston and New York to Indianapolis and Washington, D.C., on Wednesday to protest the death of a black man who died of spinal injuries after his arrest by Baltimore police and to demand reforms to police procedures.

While protests of the death of Freddie Gray were mostly peaceful, there were some arrests, including 16 in Baltimore and more than a dozen at a rally in Manhattan's Union Square. Gray, of Baltimore, was critically injured in police custody.

After meeting with faith leaders and a lawyer for the Gray family, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said officials were working hard to make the investigation into Gray's death transparent and keep the community informed.

Police have said that they will turn over findings from their investigation to the state's attorney on Friday

Still, anger and anxiety hung over Baltimore.

Hundreds of protesters, many of them students wearing backpacks, marched through downtown, calling for swift justice in the case of Gray.

Authorities carefully monitored the rally after teenagers started the violence Monday afternoon, throwing bricks and bottles at officers who had gathered near a major bus transfer point. The situation escalated from there, overwhelming police as protesters set fire to cars and buildings and raided stores.

Schools closed Tuesday because of the mayhem, but reopened Wednesday, after the city's first night of a curfew went off without the widespread violence many had feared.

About 3,000 police and National Guardsmen descended on the city to help keep order, and life wasn't likely to get completely back to normal anytime soon: The curfew was set to go back into effect at 10 p.m.

The curfew got off to a not-so-promising start Tuesday night when about 200 protesters ignored warnings from police and pleas from pastors and other community activists to disperse. Some threw water bottles or lay down on the ground.

A line of officers behind riot shields hurled tear gas canisters and fired pepper balls at the crowd, which dispersed in a matter of minutes.

Police said 35 people were arrested after the curfew went into effect.

And in what was one of the weirdest spectacles in major-league history, Wednesday afternoon's Baltimore Orioles game at Camden Yards was closed to the public for safety reasons.

Earlier in the day, protesters outside the office of Baltimore's top prosecutor said they supported State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby, who took office in January and pledged during her campaign to address aggressive police practices.

Mosby's office is expected on Friday to get investigative findings from police on Gray's death. She will then face a decision on whether and how to pursue charges against the six police officers who arrested Gray.

Seems to me that '' Faith Leaders '' and problems are going around the world hand in hand.

This may or may not shed some light on things.

BALTIMORE — A prisoner sharing a police transport van with Freddie Gray told investigators that he could hear Gray “banging against the walls” of the vehicle and believed that he “was intentionally trying to injure himself,” according to a police document obtained by The Washington Post.

It appears Freddie was was not exactly a model citizen. Have to wonder how many lives and families he help to destroy.

There is no doubt there are many police that have no business being in law enforcement with the vigilante mentality so many seem to have. Its obvious the justice system is equally broken looking at this mans arrest record. Is this possibly where the brutal police mentality comes from?

Yep you convinced me I am siding with Geraldo Rivera on this one. He dun did himself in. He managed to break his back. As on person said I wonder how much the famous brothers gave to restore peace in Baltimore and help Nepal. My g/f gave 300 bahts. They are to busy spending millions to find some right wing fanatic to run for president in 2016.

Yes indeed. It appears that Mr. Grey was a low level, a very low level drug dealer, mainly marijuana, which is legal in my State. If only he had opened up a legal medical marijuana shop somewhere he might be considered a model citizen. But since all the medical marijuana shops selling pot to the same group of people they were selling to before medical marijuana became "a thing" are middle class white dudes and Grey was a piss poor black guy living in a down and out neighborhood of Baltimore, well, let's call Grey something less than a model citizen and the legal sellers of pot, well, we will call them progressives. Although my guess is that you are not too fond of progressives either.

On other hand, I don't think Black lives matter. I am not Black, but I know that other than my immediate family and a small circle of close friends, my life does not matter to anyone else. My skin color does not change that basic reality of being human. And since my life don't matter to anyone else I had best act accordingly.

Following is an EDITORIAL that some might find of interest. If nothing else, it is something of a change on all the racist talk being spewed around.

The author indicates the problem is a Baltimore problem, and not an American problem.

The problem would further seem to extend to other major cities that are having, and have had, so called race problems.

BALTIMORE IS A DEMOCRAT PROBLEM, NOT AMERICA’S PROBLEM
by JOHN NOLTE28 Apr 20152273
Contrary to the emotional blackmail some leftists are attempting to peddle, Baltimore is not America’s problem or shame. That failed city is solely and completely a Democrat problem. Like many failed cities, Detroit comes to mind, and every city besieged recently by rioting, Democrats and their union pals have had carte blanche to inflict their ideas and policies on Baltimore since 1967, the last time there was a Republican Mayor.
In 2012, after four years of his own failed policies, President Obama won a whopping 87.4% of the Baltimore City vote. Democrats run the city of Baltimore, the unions, the schools, and, yes, the police force. Since 1969, there have been only two Republican governors of the State of Maryland.

I think I'd have to disagree with the author that it is "not America's problem or shame". That's because this problem is pervasive in American politics from the top down and it had better get fixed before it gets worse.

I just heard an interview of Maryland State Senate Majority Leader Catherine Pugh on the riots. Twice she mentioned "equalization of wealth" and very little, if anything, about dearly departed Mr. Freddie Gray. The interviewer did not point out to her that the latest is that the US Government has paid out 22 trillion on the War on Poverty since inception with absolutely no change in the poverty level. The interviewer didn't ask her this question either: "How much equalization of wealth would you like to see?".

Baltimore is Maryland's problem and states like Maryland are America's problem.

it had better get fixed before it gets worse.

It won't get fixed. A major problem in black communities are solo parent families and you can't legislate morality or make fathers stay at home.

The famous mother that beat up her rioter son has 5 other children at home and no husband.

Yep, SKNINH (Six Kids, No Income, No Husband). No income except that "equalized" by the government and given to her. I initially thought she was beating her kid because he came back empty-handed from looting.

It's not an American problem, it's a Democrat problem? Really? If it's not an American problem, why are they demonstrating in thousands of cities? I presume those are only Democrat cities?

How do you come to the conclusion that he was "mainly a marijuana" dealer?

Photos of the six Baltimore Police officers labeled as racist against blacks by many people in America...

Well done making those photos public, NOT. Now they will be in fear of their lives if they ever go out in public again, and I anticipate that they will be aquitted.

This kind of confrontation takes place in America hundreds of times a month... notice the brazen nature of the young thugs.

Baltimore and Ferguson are a hundred times worse than where this incident happened...

This is racism alright ... blacks threatening whites ...

You might want to check out the Drudge Report today. That photo of the six police officers is the headline photo.

Drudge has had 25,743,484 (and counting) viewers in the last 24 hours. I don't think the photo is a state secret at this point.
