Hi

My 12 month visa ends May 20th. I can extend this for another 3 months at immigration here in Thailand right?

Posted

You have a Non O multiple visa?

Is May 20th:

1) the "ENTER BEFORE" date on the visa or

2) is it the "ADMITTED UNTIL" stamp of your last entry?

In case 1 you do a further border run before or on May 20th and get another 3 month ADMITTED UNTIL stamp.

So total of 15 months with this visa possible.

In case 2: this would be an extension of stay to be applied for at Thai immigration office.

But I am not aware of an easy/standard extension for 3 months.

Someone knows better?

Sorry I screwed up I have a non O 12 month multi and upon checking again Im actually admitted to 28 june 2015

However at the end of June , what should I do? my impression was I could extend in Thailand for another 3 months or do I have to leave Thailand and grab a visa from abroad

Do a border hop on or before 28 June and you will get another 90 days entry.

It works great OP ... I did this last December 12, 2014 on my Multi-Entry 'O' ... took me to March this year 2015... Then I applied and got an Extension of Stay based on Retirement... Not a bad deal to be able to go in and out of Thailand for 15 months - mostly in - for the $200 'O' Visa fee..

Thanks bigT :-) Jdrugen, it does work great but the only thing is I need to go to OZ to get it. I usually fly to perth and then Overnight express my passport to Brisbane and they stamp it the same day and return it.

The only thing is the cost of the airfare and 3 nights accomodation. I need to do the math to see if its cheaper to do border runs and buy visas or fly to OZ. Im thinking they will work out around the same price but far less hassle to get the multi 12month

edit

its actually a lot cheaper to do visa runs from Bangkok

Only if your visa is still valid. There are 2 dates of interest in your passport, the "admitted until" date on your arrival stamp and the visa "enter before" date on the visa itself.

Really????

He writes that he has an admitted (!) until 28 June.

It is not written when the visa expires (ENTER BEFORE) which would be the date to do a border run (as already written).

@mcfish: what is the expiry date of your visa (ENTER BEFORE on the visa sticker)?

If the date has passed: get a new visa!

No. You have to be back in Thailand by the 28. The 28 is your "Enter by date" not permitted to stay date. If re enter on the 29 you will only get a visa exempt stamp probably only good for 30 days depending on your nationality.

That makes better sense. Thanks for clarifying

yep. But Im pretty sure I could get the last 3 months as an extension at immigration. Maybe I dreamt it but I recall I did that about 5 years ago. I guess it wont hurt to give them a call before I leave. Thanks for your help everyone

You cannot extend it (unless you qualify for a 1 year extension of stay). You only can get the extra 90 days by leaving and re-entering just before the visa itself expires (25th of May).

Amazingly confusing and conflicting "advice" being given in this thread.

As you say, he needs to check when the actual visa expires and when his current permission to stay ends. To get another entry he needs to exit and return before the visa expires and, of course, he must leave before his permission to stay ends/

Do a border hop on or before 28 June and you will get another 90 days entry.

"Hoping" across a border with an expired visa won't get him a 90 day entry.

Insufficient info and "vague" wording in a thread opener might lead to conflicting advice.

Nothing to blame the posters for.

Exact info has been requested and been provided.

Correct advice given.

Thread starter satisfied.

That you repeat/sum up is up to you.
