Morning all,

Firstly, I hope this is not a stupid question.

From what I have gathered in other posts to apply for a Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage the applicant must have had 400,000 in a Thai bank account for minimum 2 months.

My question is how does the immigration office verify this ?

If I take my original Thai bank book in to the Penang consulate today and submit it with the application it shows (hypothetically) I deposited 405,000 baht on 01/03/15.

How do they know that money is still in the account ? - I could have withdrawn it all via online banking or ATMs on 02/03/15 but until I go into Bangkok Bank and update my passbook it will just show I have 405,000 baht balance.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Cheers,

BB

Those requirements are for applying at Immigration in Thailand for a 12 month extension.

Update the bankbook on the day you apply.

Not sure about Penang but Savanakhet will issue a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa without any financial requirements.

Thanks for the response Lite Beer.

After a bit of trawling the internet it seems some embassies / consulates require the 400 K for visa and others don't.

Malaysia requires it for multiple entry but I have yet to find out what the requirement is for single entry.

If I have to do it from home (100 km south of Buriram) can you (or any other members) recommend a location and mode of transport to obtain this visa ?

You can get a single entry non-o in Vientiane or Savannakhet Laos without financial proof.

Savannakhet does multiple entry non-o visas with no financial proof.

You will need your marriage certificate plus a copy, signed and dated copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card.

You can go by bus from Buriram to either location. You travel to Nong Khai for Vientiane and to Mukdahan for Savannakhet.

Thank you UbonJoe,

Couple of quick questions.

Can I drive to either border and park truck and leave similar to Poipet ?

How long am I out of Thailand (how long is application process) ?

Cheers,

You can drive to the bridge at either location. There is secure parking available at both locations.

You apply the morning of one day and pickup you passport the next afternoon.

From Buriram Savannakhet would be best place to go and the consulate there is less busy than the embassy in Vientiane.
