I am just over 55 years old and have a Chinese wife who is 15 years younger than me. If I show 800k baht in a Bank account and get a retirement visa based on that, would this also be valid accepted method for my wife to be able to live with me in Thailand or are there further complications due to her nationality.

There is no retirement visa !

You may be able to secure an extension of stay based on retirement which would require you to enter the country with a "Non O" Visa in the first instance.

Once you have secured your extension of stay your wife could obtain an extension of stay based upon being your dependent .

Once you have a Twelve Month Extension of Stay based on retirement your Wife can get the same as your dependant.

Your wife can get an extension of stay as your dependent after you have your extension. She will need a non-o visa entry in order to apply for it.

OP - where are you living at the present time? In Thailand or your home country?

If in your home country, which one is it?

And where is your wife living at the present time? In China, Thailand or your home country?

If in your home country, does she have some form of permanent residency status there?

Answers to these fundamental questions would probably facilitate the provision of meaningful advice on here for you (and her)!

I actually do have a Thai wife but the marriage has been in trouble for a long time and I am planning to divorce. Right now I have a one year non immigrant multiple entry O visa for Thailand. I have been working in Abu Dhabi on a rotational basis where my proposed (Chinese) wife still has a residence visa, so now basically I want to know how she and I can live together in Thailand as I have lived there (phuket) for many years and still feel it is home to me. I am also considering setting up a business to do chartering with my boat in the near future.

Big changes and all rather unsettling!

If she will get a single or a multiple non-O depends on the cosulate where you will apply.

It would seem the Chinese lady will be totally reliant on whatever visa(s) she can obtain on her own .

She will not qualify for any form of "dependent" or multiple -entry visa and I suspect the best she will get will be Tourist Visas.

Best the lady checks with the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi .

I would think the locals might have something to say about you trying to do that. Also, an extension of stay based on retirement does not allow you to work.

As a former resident of the UAE (where I got my initial non-imm O-A when I first retired) I recommend that you use the Thai consulate in Dubai, NOT the Thai embassy in Abu Dhabi. The embassy is not as accommodating as the consulate. Far easier to deal with the people in Dubai.

P.S. As I recall when I got the O-A and maybe even when I got Tourist Visas, I think I needed a letter from my employer verifying my employment, salary and legal residence in the UAE. And, of course, all the other things for the O-A, including medical and police reports.
