Can I go to Mae Sai border to activate second half of double entry tourist visa?

Is it pretty straight forward? no strange reports such as having to show money?

Yes, you can. No strange reports.

Did it a bit over 3 weeks ago, no problems at all.

Just remember to have the US$10 for your Burma stamps vs the 500 baht, works out cheaper (I actually forgot this time despite having done the run half a dozen times before over the last 3 years and always having the $10 with me.)

Also if you want to go into Burma they've changed the process from previous years, you no longer have to get a "shopping" pass and leave your passport with them, they actually double stamp you and give you your passport back on the spot and allow you to go through into Tachileik.
