BMA to issue quake manuals to old buildings

BANGKOK, 13 May 2015 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is ready to distribute manuals to operators of old buildings to educate them on how deal with a possible earthquake.

The move came in response to surveys which indicated that buildings constructed before 1997 had not been designed to resist tremors as required by the present laws. The Public Works Department is in the process of issuing to operators of older buildings 20,000 manuals on how to prevent residents from dangers in case of earthquake .

The Public Works Department will also instruct the buildings’ owners to improve the buildings’ structures in line with the correct engineering practice. Buildings which were designed in accordance with the 1997 ministerial regulations should be able to withstand a tremor.

The Public Works Department currently has under its care 67 abandoned buildings from 41 projects, most of which previously belonged to operators facing financial difficulties.

Has to be the shortest manual ever!!

Run....................................

Or why not make it compulsory to the wear helmets in buildings from before 1997.

That would be in line with the other excellent ideas from the clowns in charge: Wristbands for tourists and licence for riding a bicycle!!

These manuals are very thin. The first page simply shows a diagram of how to kiss your as* goodbye. The remaining pages contain prayers in an assortment of languages. Should make it simple enough for Thai building owners to understand. whistling.gif

what about the "grey ghosts"? All the half built tower blocks which were abandoned during the economic crash of 97 and are now sprouting trees from every unfinished crack and orifice....

What will they fall on?
