Chinese company treats 12,700 employees to Thai vacation

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- More than 12,700 employees of Infinitus (China) Co Ltd were given a free trip to Thailand as part of an incentive tour.

Juthaporn Rerngronasa, accting governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, revealed that Bangkok and Pattaya will be the key destinations of the tour which will be arranged in a series. She expected total spending of about Bt600 million from the tour, which starts from May 10 to May 26.

During the period, a series of tours are organised, bringing in about 3,000 employees each time. Each group will stay for six nights at four- to five-star hotels. They will demand a total of 38,000 hotel rooms. The employees will be flown in by 110 flights.

Juthaporn said that their arrivals would boost the low-season tourism market.

"The report on a Chinese company’s free trip to 6,400 employees to France was widely shared in social media. Indeed, Thailand is also a key destination of Chinese companies’ incentive tours," she said.

Infinitus (China) manufactures and distributes skincare, healthcare, and beauty care products.

To celebrate the company’s 20th birthday, Tiens Group, a Chinese conglomerate, last week offered an all expenses paid trip to France to more than 6,000 employees.

Wow! I sure am glad my trip to Pattaya is before those dates. I can not imagine so many Chinese at one time and the mess and noise that will be created by them. It's good the hotels and restaurants will benefit from having their rooms rented and tour packages will be sold however I do not think it will help any of the nightlife income needed there. I have seen these tour groups in action and never have I seen them stop to spend money. The follow the leader taking pictures only. Good for some in Pattaya but bad for the real spenders who go out at night and spend the most money while there.

According to another newspaper, they are "travelling in groups of 2,000-3,000 each".

And from the same source, next year they're "to bring up to 20,000 staff".

I pity those who encounter them.

Edit: that's not intended to be a racist comment, but any group of 2-3,000 people descending on a venue en masse is going to be unpleasant for others.

total spending of 600 Million baht from the tour, which works out at 48,000 baht per head... it's a free holiday for workers, if anyone who has worked with the Chinese on a regular basis, big spending isn't their thing, these workers will spend 8000 baht per day???

If it's a free trip, it means the company will be picking up the tab, 600 Million baht is 110,627,794 Chinese Yuan, and that's just spending money..

For those T.V brain surgeons who make comments like "Chinese Masters visiting their new colony", as well people making other derogatory remarks, here's some news. Chinese corporation Tiens Group were taken on an all-expenses-paid vacation to France and Monaco by their founder and chairman, Li Jinyuan, last week. The massive getaway was in celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary, which the group celebrated with a four-day stay in Paris, the French Riviera and Monaco, which was reported by C.N.N. The cost for the Chinese company was 14.5 million U.S Dollars which was income for France and Monaco, besides the airlines. E.U countries and U.K travel agents are encouraging such incentives out China and the U.S saw the largest number of Chinese visitors in the past one year. Go figure!

We are not debating class here. My post was a response to some idiotic comments made with regards relating to Thailand. I am making a point here to say that Thailand is not specific to Chinese travellers. the "Classy" destinations such as France. Monaco, the U.K, Australia and the U.S are creating packages and making specific arrangements to welcome the Chinese money into their coffers. Those "Classy" countries are enjoying the boost in the economy. No country has denied any Chinese business but on the contrary making Immigration and such procedures easier to accommodate the Chinese travellers. Soon, the "So Called" Classy society might have no place to go to...

and the point others are making is that France doesn't keep posting tourist propaganda from a group of Clowns called TAT, that are in direct conflict with what regular people who live in such tourist places, where hotels are so empty they have to offer 50% discounts for locals!!

Even if it was a Billion Chinese through the airport turnstyles, unless they meet the target for revenue generated, it's still a fail.

I don't think the 2000 - 3000 will be booked into 1 venue. They did the same in Paris (another company) for 6500 people in +-4670 rooms in +-179 hotels. They took them around in 146 busses.

I think what is more important to me is the change in how good Chinese companies view their employees vs UK zero hour contracts and US minimum wage contracts for companies like McDonalds. In the minds of many westerners Chinese companies exploit their employees and western companies take care of their employees, but it seems as if the tide is turning.

Thailand seen attractive for incentive travel
SUCHAT SRITAMA
THE NATION

30260026-01_big.JPG

BANGKOK: -- THAILAND has become a popular destination for incentive tourism - free trips offered to a company's employees - thanks to competitive packages and political stability.

Supawan Tanomkieatipume, vice president of the Thai Hotels Association, said this country had become one of most popular destinations for incentive travel, particularly from Asian countries such as China, South Korea and Japan.

She said Thailand was a much cheaper destination for this kind of travel than neighbouring countries like Singapore and Malaysia.

Moreover, foreigners now feel confident about their safety while visiting the Kingdom as political problems have been subdued.

"This year, many foreign companies, especially in Asia, have picked Thailand as the best option for sending their employees on vacations. Thailand has all kinds of attractions, [more than] other nations," Supawan said.

She said Singapore was also a good place for a vacation but too expensive for large groups. Vietnam, meanwhile, is able to serve incentive tours with its attractions but |still needs to improve its management.

Juthaporn Rerngronasa, acting governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said more than 12,700 employees of Infinitus (China) Co had been given free trips to Thailand. Bangkok and Pattaya are the key destinations of the tours, which are being held in a series that started last Sunday.

She expects total spending of about Bt600 million from the tours, which will run until May 26.

About 3,000 Infinitus employees are being flown in at a time. Each group will stay for six nights at four- or five-star hotels. They will need a total of 38,000 hotel rooms. The employees are being brought in on 110 flights.

Juthaporn said their arrivals would boost the low-season tourism market.

"A report on a Chinese company's free trips for 6,400 employees to France was widely shared in social media. Indeed, Thailand is also a key destination for Chinese companies' incentive tours," she said.

Kasian Watanachaopisut, president of the Thai-Chinese Tourism Alliance Association, said China had became Thailand's biggest source of tourists over the past few years, with expectations of 6 million arrivals from that country this year.

"Thai hotels and travel companies are eyeing the China market, as it is an emerging market and also has a huge proportion of high-spending tourists," he said.

Earlier, 115 travel operators in Thailand agreed to use a new standard contract rate for optional packages at 600 yuan (about Bt3,000) per tourist, to encourage more Chinese people travel to this country.

" A high proportion of large spending tourists. "

Yes but they are known to favour fist class destinations where they can spend not travel on a package tour to Thailand.

Face is important to Chinese too so there's something in saying you've been to Paris etc as opposed to Pattaya.

So, they are being picked up by Chinese owned buses ? Are the bus drivers Thais or Chinese ?

Driven to Chinese owned restaurants and shops ? Do those restaurants and shops employ Thais ? Chinese restaurants in England and Australia employ Chinese people, but I think Chinese restaurants in Thailand employ Thais !! :)

And you notice, when European companies turn up in Thailand and open hotels and have European tourists staying in the hotels, that's called foreign investment going into Thailand. But, when Chinese companies open hotels in Thailand and fill them with Chinese tourists, well, that's called a "Chinese invasion of Thailand and it benefits Chinese only" !! :)

And when McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Starbucks, etc, when they turn up in Thailand, that's called foreign investment in Thailand. What's it called if Chinese companies try the same thing ??

Hope you can see how silly the attitude of some ThaiVisa people are.

A number of companies in Australia offering trips to Thailand as well. B.P and Woolworths BWS chain. It maybe a TAT Thai airways initiative to boost numbers. Chang beer in Australia is also offering Thailand holiday prizes.

LOL.

The Yuan is down against the USD in the past ten years from 8.25 in 2005 to 6.2 right now.

Marrying any rich girl would help you out, BTW.

Finally a tvf poster for China. My guess is you don't live in a tourist destination being mauled all day by Chinese busses blocking traffic or the masses trundling through your area.

Comparing the Chinese equivalent of Amway marketing stunt in France to what's going on here is asinine.

I wonder if the Chinese government has whispered into the ears of these company CEO's to sell Thailand to their employees as just another way to woo Thailand into the Chinese fold.

It's all about money.
