Britain has more gay MPs than anywhere else

32 out of 650 MPs are openly gay. That's 4.9% of the total, roughly comparable with the LGBT proportion of the population as a whole.

There were 155 LGBT candidates.

12 of the gay MPs are Conservative, 13 Labour, and 7 Scottish Nationalist.

Does anyone have figures for any other countries?

We’ll never know if closeted or undeclared LGBTQ representation is higher in another country where candidates feel less able to state their sexual preference in public.

Two gay MPs could be set to be in the running for deputy leader of the Labour party in the UK.

Former Cabinet minister Ben Bradshaw and former Shadow leader of the Commons Angela Eagle could be facing off for the one of the top leadership positions. Both Bradshaw and Eagle are believed to be strong names to overhaul the party and bring back support.

There are always going to be some still in the closet in any country, even Britain, so the figure given is a minimum figure.

Guess in a few years time then the Houses of Parliament will be painted pink
