Johnny Depp's dogs face death in Australia

You're just obsessing over the "...10yrs" thing. Nobody, not even this minister, seriously thinks Depp would ever do 10yrs. I think there's some understandable indignation at Depp's arrogance in flouting Australian law and using the privilege of wealth & elite travel status to do it. But no one, expected public posturing notwithstanding, seriously thinks Depp would ever get an actual prison sentence - maybe a short suspended one if there's a failure to show some contrition.

Depp & Australia will eventually kiss & make up. Probably sooner rather than later. But Australia was well within its rights to take him to task, and probably even less leniently than it actually did.

Google Depp 10 years:

May not be likely, but I'd feel real foolish if I did come back without some guaranty of a lesser sentence... and ended up in prison for 10. Or even 6 months. Too easy to just avoid Oz for the rest of my life.

Oh, I've no argument that the matter will be ironed out behind the scenes before Depp sets foot in Australia again. But I have no doubt the necessary discussions will take place; we just may well not read much about them, esp. since the public has a short memory, and this story will quickly fade from the public awareness.

My only point is that Australia was well within its rights, Depp was indisputably offsides, and this minister was only doing what all senior bureaucrats tend to do.

After watching the Police down under dibba daubing (is that the correct term) the guys in Bali and knowing about the firing squad would anyone really ever trust those cops again?

I mean you have a lot to consider. Australia is opposed to capital punishment except for dogs. I'd have to think about it for a long time before I went back regardless of the assurances I got.

Now - this is how it's done, in style:

- a moviestar,

- getting the star treatment

- private little jet

- no dogs to distract from the festivities (plenty of news-hounds though)

"I have a feeling we're going to avoid the land Down Under from now on, just as much as we can, thanks to certain politicians there," she sighed.

"I guess everyone tries to go for their 15 minutes [of fame], including some government officials."
