I am new to this forum, so hello everyone :-)

I'm 21 years old, moving to Thailand later this year.

I don't have a fixed period of stay, I imagine at least two years if not more.

Coming from Denmark, a country of "free" (paid through tax) healthcare I am overall unfamiliar with health insurance, let alone international ones.

Looking at actual travel insurance plans, they are either expensive* (about $1200 per year) and/or require active healthcare in home country.

The latter will be a problem, since you lose the right to "free" healthcare after (officially) being out of Denmark more than half the year.

So I have been searching for local health insurance in Thailand, but couldn't really find any actual figures. Just discussion regarding requirements, documents, coverage, etc.

What did you do? Start out with travel insurance, then switch to local insurance?

- I suppose you need to get settled in Thailand before it's really possible to acquire local insurance.

What should I expect for my budget?

I'm not going to be careless about my health, but I'm not an addict to feeling secure either.

I just want to be sure, if anything bad happens, I'm able to get some help and it not cause an economic crisis.

Hope to hear your experiences and perhaps what you pay (PM me if you prefer).

:-) :-)

* Or maybe it's exactly what you guys are paying, in which case I should just pull myself together and realize health insurance is that expensive.

There are many varied options open to you with different benefit levels depending on what level of risk (if any) you are happy to take on yourself.

As you are young no policy will be expensive but as there are so many to choose from we suggest you go HERE for various quotes.
