For the last couple of days, I've had a fever....profuse sweating, but chilled. I go and stand in the sun, but still have goose bumps and feel cold. It's 30 degrees in my sitting room, and I am too cold to put the fan on.

I have a bit of a head cold...stuffy nose and an occassional sneeze, but I feel fine.

The thing is...I feel like I am not sick....perhaps a slight hangover feeling that I would ignore.

Does this sound like anything that anyone knows of? I've had dengue a few times, and this is nothing like that horrible feeling, but similar in the sweats and chills.

Dengue runs in a spectrum from very mild to severe so it is not impossible you have another strain of dengue, if so a rash should become evident within about a week esp. on your palms

there are other viruses here related to Dengue e.g. Chikungya.

Or, given the congestion, could be sinusitis or the flu.

Could also be the prodrome to a number of other infectious diseases.

Just how high a fever?

whistling.gif Not to be rude, but why are you typing that here.

Go to a doctor for a check-up.

Sheryl is a nurse, but even she probably can't do a diagnosis from you typing on the computer.

That's what doctors are trained for...... to observe patients and make a diagnosis based on the observation and tests.

Go see a doctor.

I appreciate that....I'm not looking for a diagnosis as such....it is more a passing interest whether this sort of fever and chills is a known "thing"...."Oh, that sounds like rohk gin mao maak....it'll pass in a few days....or you'd better write will..."

Thanks Sheryl.

My electronic thermometer has a flat battery....but I think the fever is quite high; My wife's touch is usually very warm, but now it's cold, and she says I am very hot, also the amount of sweating just sitting here typing is profuse...beads all up my arm as well as the usual running down the face. Two sopping T-shirts already today. The chills are like stepping outside on a frosty morning....almost, lol.

It's so odd because I feel ok otherwise.

As I said to ImaFarang...I was really interested to know if this is a known "fever" condition...prelude to malaria or whatever. It's the lack of feeling ill that surprises me.

Sounds similar to my dengue bout a year ago. But as Sheryl pointed out, usually you will get a rash on feet and hands after a few days. I would go see a doctor just to be sure.

Does not sound like malaria (would would definitely feel ill) plus transmission requires nighttime exposure to jungle areas along the border.

For that matter would usually feel at least a little ill/achy with dengue.

As you otherwise feel well, are you sure this is not just the extreme heat causing the hot feeling and sweating, and then chills due to the sweating? (will especially happen if you are near a fan or in a/c).

I suggest you start by getting a working thermometer. Old fashioned mercury one is fine and cheap. This will show whether you in fact have a fever (as opposed toi being overheated from the weather) and how much.

I doubt that the fewer is high. I doubt that someone can feel OK with more than 39 degree. I would say 3-4 days fewer (not very high) with feeling OK is nothing to worry, take it easy. But if it is longer --> doctor

I have a lot troubles with the digital thermometer, I prefer the old style mercury filled one....I measure temperature with it 3 times and it is 3 times exactly the same. With the digital ones I had (maybe there are better one) I measure 3 times and get 4 different results. Even at the army hospital I was once the values were off (everyone had 35 degree, only the people with fever had 36.5).

If you only feel hot, you may not have fever...there are several situations you feel hot or cold, but body temperature is OK. So don't trust the feeling.

I just recovered from a few days of illness that felt like a mild case of dengue with no achy joints (I live in Chiang Mai).

No desire to eat ANYTHING for two full days, only continually sipping water. Some chills alternating with hot sweats & diarrhea, slept most of a 3 day period, some mild fever, could not tolerate bright lights or extreme outdoor heat - 3rd & 4th day could eat a little bit, now 7 days later back to 100% normal.

I've had this 10 day period of illness. Can't say it is a cold or flu. The main symptom is sore/stiff muscles and bones and headache. But I also had a bit of an upset stomach and low fever. So tired and only wanted to eat snacks. I don't have a rash so not dengue.

You just never know in Thailand so many viral illnesses.

Forgot to write what I meant to write first. Sounds as if it could be swine flu. The current strain can cause stomach upset.

What a luck that I am not a swine laugh.png

Be careful not to let yourself get dehydrated. Drink plenty of water and you should feel better. If you checked into hospital you'd be a prime candidate for a saline drip.

I've had Hepatitis A (twice) and malaria and each time the symptoms of high fever and chills fitted your description. But that was me. You need to get a professional medical opinion soonest.

Interesting read from everyone, and thanks for all advice.....today, I'm back to normal...no sweats, no chills. Still have the cough/sneeze and stuffy nose, though, lol.

It was odd.

That's good. Hopefully you can now proceed to your century without further disruption.

If you do suffer another protracted fever, even if it is low, it is very important to keep well hydrated and avoid the heat as much as possible. This is because heat stroke can become a real possibility and this is a real danger.

Ideally, bed rest in a cool room would be best. Personally, when I am ill, it is the last thing I want to do I must admit.

hydration is important, but for the temperature....what ever feels OK, rest a lot but simple work is possible with light fewer.....When you are boring in the bed it is OK to for example wash the dishes or write emails.

If healthy and not overweight........
