Re-entry permit and 5 months study break

Featured Replies

Son is full time student on Stamford International University in Bangkok since 2012. He got an one year extension based on ED visa valid until April 2016.

After completion of semester in June 2015, he plans to take one term off and visit home country, which means to return to Thailand in November 2015 after 5 months break and continue with studying.

Is in this case ok just to get re-entry permit, or he will need to apply for new ED visa in Thai Embassy? We are worry, that extension will be canceled, as he will take term off and left the kingdom for 5 months?

Many thanks for any information.

If he will not be attending classes for an extended period of time he is not meeting the requirements for his extension of stay. Only if the university was to notify immigration to cancel it would it be canceled though.

When returning on a re-entry permit after 5 months out of the country he could be question by immigration as to what he was doing.

Getting a new ED visa while out of the country would be a good option.

Thank you for answer.

Getting new ED visa really seems to be the best option to avoid any problems upon return.
