Pattaya, Chon Buri:-Police arrested a Russian man and a Briton for having allegedly robbed and extorted a protection fee from a French businessman in Pattaya.

Denis Zabodaev, 31, who carries a Russian passport, and Fenrir Pallson Hallan, 45, who carries a British passport, were arrested by immigration police on Thursday.

Chon Buri Immigration Police chief Pol Col Praphansak Prasarnsuk held a press conference at 2:30 pm at the Chon Buri Immigration Office shortly after the arrest.

Praphansak told the press conference that the arrest was made following a complaint with his office by Laurrent Emanuel Thery, 51, a French businessman.

Thery is an exporter of Islamic foods.

The French businessman said in the complaint that four foreigners had raided his factory and forced him to give them some valuables and parts of the foods processing machine worth Bt50,000.

Thery said the four then forced him to lead them to his room at the Royal Thai Residence. They took more valuables and two Macbook computers worth Bt50,000. Before they fled, they also took his mobile phone.

Several days after the robbery, one of the alleged mafia gangsters called him and threatened to harm his family, Thery alleged. He said he had to wire Zabodaev Bt15,000 in a protection fee.

The French businessman said his family was frightened so he decided to seek help from the immigration police.

Police checked feeds of security cameras at the Royal Thai Residence and learned the identities of the four alleged mafia gangsters. Two of them were arrested and the two other are still elusive.

Zabodaev and Hallan faced extortion charges.

for good, approx.. half of the farang's community will be gone.. that's how bad it

has become there and other places around Thailand...

For the record, the name of the Brit is spelled incorrectly. He is a long time and well known expat by the name of Thor Halland.

I know him well as we are both actors in a local theater community group. Told me he's a multi millionaire.

A Pattaya multi-milionaire. There's millions of them. Easy to spot driving around on motor scooters with their SAS mates ;-)

The tourist destinations of Thailand really need a good cleaning. Its just gotten way out of conrol. The RTP are to blame for most of it.....spend time and effort not letting the criminal-tourist element into the country in the first place.

Multi millionaire my arse, don't make me laugh. Probably just a old lowlife cheap charlie from north England where most of them who hide over here come from.

All think they are jack the lads, send him back to Manchester haha.

An yes I'm English. But wouldn't want anything to do with these scums that come over here to continue their rogue trade on innocent people.

I nearly got scammed myself here 5yrs ago on a new condo development. But managed to get my investment back but other investors were not so lucky.

An this so called developer was from the uk. Still on the run now with the money he stole from these people.

Sooo.... whats the real story? A Brittish guy hires Russian mafia tugs to get money out of a French guy who runs a business......is there borrowed money involved maybe?

That seems the most likely explanation...

Unless Thor (the writer, ex Stowe School and a previous University Challenge winner) is a secret Mafia Kingpin...laugh.png

Russian Muay Thai champion, English multi-millionaire philosophy graduate, thespian and top TV quiz winner, and French importer of Halal goods to Thailand in questionable theft/blackmail/debt collection debacle.

Say what you like about Pattaya, but it is never dull.
