Non Immigrant Type O - Multiple, how it works?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum but have done already a good bit of reading and found it so far the best source of information for a foreign that wants to come to Thailand and need to sort out his Visa.

I am 45 from Italy, currently living in UK, married to a Thai national and have a daughter of 8 YO.

We are planning to come to Thailand in August to stay permanently. To do so we are in the process of applying for myself, ( my daughter is Thai citizen), a 1 year non immigrant type O multiple.

My question is the follow.

How is this Visa working? After 90 days from the date of entry do I need to get out of the country and come back or can I just renew/extend at Thai immigration Office? And How many times?

Thanks everyone in advance for your time and patience.

You will have to leave the country every 90 days to get a new entry.

You could apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage. You will need 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only for 2 months or proof of 40k baht income. You could apply for the extension during the last 30 day of any of the 90 entries from the visa. Or you could get a single entry non-o visa and then do the extension. Once you have the extension you will just need to do reports of staying longer than 90 days at immigration.

You can also apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife for any of the 90 day entries. You can only apply for one extension per entry.

.

Thank you #ubonjoe for your quick reply. I have a better understanding now, however, only one detail that I am still unclear.

Is the extension not done by the immigration department..? In such a case, how would I report back to them if they are the one who issued the extension..?

Immigration does the extension. You will do a report 90 days after you apply for the one year extension. It is a requirement called out in the immigration act.

You just fill out a TM47 form and present it to immigration along with your passport. You can also do it by mail or online (this is new).

ubonjoe great, I am clear now.

The first year in Thailand I will have to get out every three months, (with the option to extend for 30 days one time per entry).

Before the one year visa runs out I can apply for an extension of the visa and if this is granted I will only need to report to immigration every 90 days instead of running out of the country and coming back.

Thanks again, can't wait to be there.

You can get 60 day extensions. (Not 30)

As said it is 60 day extensions.

You can apply for the one year extension during the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries you will get from the visa. You do not have to wait for your visa to expire. You are applying for an extension of your permit to stay not your visa.

Lite Beer,

That sounds even more interesting, is there any particular requirements in order to apply to the 60 days extension or is just a matter of filling a form?

ubonjoe. Ok, I get that now but I have a different question.

How many months of validity on the Visa are needed in other to get a one year extension on the permit to stay?

Let's say I still have 6 months of visa and I apply for one year of extension of the permit to stay......can that be done?

What happens then when the visa runs out?

You can do the extension for any of your 90 day entries. It can be the first one or the last entry. The visas validity does not matter when applying for an extension of stay.

Nothing happens after the visa runs out.

You complete a TM7 application form. Your wife needs to be with you when you apply. You will need your marriage certificate plus a copy, copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card. The fee is 1900 baht.
