Jenny Adara Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 To discipline them, or shut them up?Probably been promoted as they have threatened to go public with some info and stuck together as a group. Otherwise why weren't they sacked?
BestBitterPhuket Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 The Thai police is an absolute joke. How can a country a obsessed with face, have a police force that is nothing but a (bad) joke. Is Gen Prayuth proud of his police force?
Fullstop Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 "Transfers, transfers, transfers" ... For God's sake! Wake up and stop stirring the crap around. Flush it down the toilet for good. FIRE them!
elgordo38 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Three Major Generals and two Colonels??? I'm probably being too cynical, but I somehow think that the officer who was shot must have been related to someone important. Yes you have to do your homework before you shoot somebody. You have to check his family tree.
elgordo38 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 We all know that no "gambling dens" operate in Thailand without "protection" from the Royal Thai Police (assuming of course that they aren't the ones actually "running" them in the first place). The one that operates a few soi's away from me is "owned" by a senior RTP officer, and he has a lovely house(s), multiple nice cars etc ... I was told he was pulling in 50-100k profit per night, and that excludes what gets pushed higher up the chain. I would guess this is why there are no legal casino's to much competition.
Kurt Kubik Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 (edited) these guys might have had a huge case....Koh Tao Murders.?? yes better move them than getting to any truth... the truth might made some lose face... well here you go better to lose face than go on your ass.. Edited May 25, 2015 by Kurt Kubik
mathias67 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 They look like a cracking bunch of fellas to go out for a drink with... I will never understand this in that Police comit a crime and all that happens is they get transferred ???? Sacked, taken to court, jailed would be the appropriate action
Kurt Kubik Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 To discipline them, or shut them up? Probably been promoted as they have threatened to go public with some info and stuck together as a group. Otherwise why weren't they sacked? This is as close as you get.. well seen miss ;o)
Exsexyman Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Three Major Generals and two Colonels??? I'm probably being too cynical, but I somehow think that the officer who was shot must have been related to someone important. Or the officer shot was the cashier at the gambling den, making sure that the cash flow to Police HQ went uninterrupted !! Has anyone else noticed, that the super investing, unusual wealthy honorable Chief of Police Mr Somyot is more frequently pictured without uniform? Political ambitions?? That would be very bad!! Oh deary deary me! Hypocrite much!
boomerangutang Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 All these transfers ....to where, pray tell? my district? your district? Each police station has a holding cell or two. Put 'em in there for kryssaches. dock their pay. Feed em watery rice soup, and find out whether they're guilty as charged. Oh, just remembered. If they're put in a local jail, police buddies of theirs will sneak them out the back door when no one is looking. Ok, nevermind, transfer them.
Squeegee Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 But but but Thai police cannot possibly be transferred to an inactive post since they are already in one as far as most policing is concerned. This is proof of the poor quality of English language skills here, or the headline would be: ...Transferred To An Even More Inactive Post Than The Last One.
boomerangutang Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 There should be a Ministry of Inactive Posts. It would be one of the largest ministries, by numbers, but not as large as the ministries which employ tens of thousands of accountants (mostly young and female) - who accomplish nothing more than crunch billions of numbers which contribute nothing to society or the taxpayers who pay their salaries. Sorry gals, but if ever there was a do-nothing job, yours' is it.
Tonawatchee Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Being transferred to an inactive post as punishment is akin to being sent to your room by your parents.
Johpa Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Dream job being transferred. Do nothing and get paid. They are transferred to a position where they can only receive their official salary, basically retirement as the major activity of the upper echelons of the RTP is involved in work that greatly increases the official salary for those at the top. Not every local police at your local amphoe owns a bar, gambling den, or brothel. But those who do choose that career path are the ones who have the ability to pay their way up the career ladder. And those who make their way up the ladder and then shake the ladder too much are then tossed off the ladder and become inactive as there are some rules, although those rules can be vague and applied unevenly.

harveyw Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Does anyone ever get sacked over here for gross misconduct or corruption or is it just off to an inactive post on full salary and pension pot until retirement age .no wonder the fight against corruption is going very slowly nowhere
axact Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 To discipline them, or shut them up? Probably been promoted as they have threatened to go public with some info and stuck together as a group. Otherwise why weren't they sacked? Your obviously unaware that no one ever gets sacked from the Thai police. This possibly is because to climb the ladder in this institution you have to buy the desired position with big money, also the reason it is so corrupt.
rametindallas Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Three Major Generals and two Colonels??? I'm probably being too cynical, but I somehow think that the officer who was shot must have been related to someone important. Wouldn't 'not respecting higher authority enough to properly report the incident' be enough grounds? My guess is they are involved up to their eyeballs in this gambling den and the big brass is pissed they tried to hide something so major as the shooting of an officer. They insulted the brass, big time; maybe they weren't passing along their 'tribute'.
rametindallas Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Committing an obvious murder in Thailand -If you are poor you will go jail for a long time or get the death penalty -If you are rich you get some bad press, some appointments you may or may not attend (up to you) and your case will eventually fade away. You may have to give somebody some cash -If you are a cop, you will have to change the address on your business card. -If you are a cop, you will have to change the address on your business card In the US, they get a promotion.
rametindallas Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Police in Thailand should be moved every year from one are to another area to avoid them getting involved and over friendly with the local gangsters and having their fingers in to many unsavoury pies. The State Police in Louisiana USA, get transferred every three years; like clockwork. No exceptions.
The Deerhunter Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 The next list of section 44 de-recruits from public positions is due in a few days. Lets hope the office space in the "transferred to inactive post department in BKK" gets depopulated a bit. 45 names on the first list. The next one will be interesting to see. It could be much bigger. (Hope)
rametindallas Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Do they ever fire and/or imprison any of these slugs ?? I assume the Royal Thai Police Operation Centre is also the hub of inactive posts. Must be full of the finest police minds. If they prosecute them, they will go to court and their defense may bring out some information that might incriminate other officers and then the whole 'house of cards' could come tumbling down. It is better (from the police perspective) to put them where they can't involve in direct corruption but are still receiving a paycheck so that they keep quiet.
Tycoon Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I love the is joint, illegal or poor execution of duty. Just transfer or move them. Nobody gets sacked or prosecuted. Its a farcical joke.
MaiChai Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I assume the Royal Thai Police Operation Centre is also the hub of inactive posts. Must be full of the finest police minds. Or just very full!
boomerangutang Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I'm sure I've met some of the 'transferred to inactive posts' alumni. For example, at a border crossing, it's not unusual to have an officer dealing with your passport, who is glum, mind in a haze, no eye-contact, no words (only a grunt or two). Police in Thailand should be moved every year from one are to another area to avoid them getting involved and over friendly with the local gangsters and having their fingers in to many unsavoury pies. The State Police in Louisiana USA, get transferred every three years; like clockwork. No exceptions. I have often crossed the in and out of Burma at northernmost Thailand. The tiny office on the Burmese side may have the world record for transfer of officers. A farang could go through that checkpoint for 300 days in a row, and every day there would be a different crew in there. They're all personable and friendly, though - a far cry from the officials on the Thai side - mentioned above.
Strangebrew Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Police in Thailand should be moved every year from one are to another area to avoid them getting involved and over friendly with the local gangsters and having their fingers in to many unsavoury pies. Finally some one with an excellent Idea That sure would cause a drop in corruption.
Fullstop Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 There should be a Ministry of Inactive Posts. It would be one of the largest ministries Second only to the Ministry of Crackdowns ... just down the corridor from the Ministry of Silly Walks.
mikiea Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Three Major Generals and two Colonels??? I'm probably being too cynical, but I somehow think that the officer who was shot must have been related to someone important. what ....? no generals ?

Has anyone else noticed, that the super investing, unusual wealthy honorable Chief of Police Mr Somyot is more frequently pictured without uniform? Political ambitions?? That would be very bad!! As you say, he's super rich and was 'hand-picked' for the top RTP job by the Generalissimo. He's seen less and less in his RTP uniform because his trusted stock broker gets edgy when he visits his office wearing it. When this photo was taken he'd either been to, or was returning from another 'buy/sell' consultation in the 'city'. I wish he would always wear his suit. Dressed in casual clothes our Somyot is a dead ringer for Hawaiian ace guitarist Kaipo Asing. Kaipo is one heck of a nice guy and an incredible talent, which is where the resemblance ends.
kiwikeith Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Committing an obvious murder in Thailand -If you are poor you will go jail for a long time or get the death penalty -If you are rich you get some bad press, some appointments you may or may not attend (up to you) and your case will eventually fade away. It's like a monopoly game Thai police style-- do not pass go, go directly to Jail your new Post.
