Red date stamp above my TR3 after Poipet border run?

Featured Replies

I have a TR3, and used my second entry via Poipet on May 3-15. There is a red date stamp (as you will see) dated July31st 2015, directly above the Visa, any ideas what the IO is trying to tell me? I have asked this question before but nobody had a definitive answer. My plan is to use the third entry (via Poipet again) on or before July 1st 2015. Hope you can read the Visas stamps as they may be upside down, it's a PDF and I don't appear to be able to save changes making them the right way up.

Probably that he's run out of blue ink.

Seriously, my passport is full of stamps in all the colours of the rainbow, I've never managed to connect the stamp colour with anything.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Often they note the number of your entry and the date you entered on that entry. Can't say why he noted July 31st on it.

The officer just picked up the wrong stamp when he stamped the date you used your 2nd entry. July 31st is 90 days from the date you entered the country which he would of had on his desk for a visa that allowed a 90 day entry.

Thanks for your replies. I can only surmise (guess) the date refers to the fact that if I extend 30 days that will take me past the enter before date of July 5th and July 31st will be the last date I would have to exit, then coming back on a new visa or visa exempt? Since I plan to do a visa run on or before July 1st, thus activating my third entry, my actual "drop dead" date (to use a phrase :) to leave the Kingdom will be on or about October 1/15.

Thanks, I think I'll just ignore the July 31 date, do the border run before July 1st, and thus give myself a further 90 days. But inevitably I feel like I've been robbed of the extra 30 days or thereabouts because the "enter before" date is Jul 5th. thus cancelling my ability to extend this second entry a further 30 days.

Just ignore the stamp. It will be obvious to an immigration officer what happened.

You did not get robbed of any days. The visas 6 month validity starts from the date it is issued. It is always best to get any visa that allows more than one entry as near to your departure date as possible.

ha ha, you are right, and thanks for the advice, but as an eternal pessimist (as my friends say... heaven forbid they could be wrong) I tend to see the glass half empty... and if you have a few days I'll tell you why :) err. maybe not.

You have been robbed of nothing. You applied for a tourist visa valid for three entries into Thailand within six months from the visa's issue date, and this is exactly what you got.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Thanks, I now understand that... the timing of TR3 issue date versus my first entry date is what determines the actual useful days in the Kingdom before a new Visa required. If the 60 +30 day extension is calculated, that would give me 270 days i.e. until November 1st or thereabouts, instead I only have until October 1st or thereabouts. So the 60+30 day 3 x, doesn't always apply... Sorry I have edited this a few minutes after posting.

Was quite excited as used to have a Triumph TR3A in the old days- wondered why it was not in the motoring section .

Tr3A, what a beautiful car you lucky dog! Have to say I preferred the Austin Healey 3000, but only by a hair! One more comment and I'm sure we'll be in the motoring section.

Probably indicates you made a border crossing rather than flying in to the country
