Okay everyone, here is the latest update.

I instructed my wife to go to the government office for land taxation and ask to talk to one of the top level managers. Tell them that we do not run a business or rent the place out so from what we have read and heard there should be very little tax each year if any at all. She did that and took the receipt that was given to her for the 15k baht she paid earlier in the week to the man that came around saying we owed 15 years back taxes.

She was told that the man that collected the money and said we owed the back taxes no longer works for that office. He used to but either he quit or got fired, it wasn't disclosed but he no longer is an employee with them. And..... he's been going around scamming folks out of so-called tax money.

The office gave her 10k baht back and said once they catch this guy they'll give her the other 5k.

Extraordinary that any sort of refund was given. That the guy basically did something criminal was not the office's fault. Indeed, they ought to nail him. I am astonished at the partial refund!

Otherwise, there was an inordinate of random speculation on this thread. You did the right thing in going to the office.
