BANGKOK: -- An investigation is underway for what caused a police officer to hang himself over the weekend inside a station in the capital’s Bang Khun Thian district.

The body of police Sgt. Maj. Suthin Boonchuay, 48, was discovered inside a locked office last night by colleagues seeking the source of a foul odor inside the Samae Dam Police Station.

Police believe he hanged himself there in the office of his supervisor, investigator Lt. Col. Phatsawee Kamnerddee, on Thursday or Friday. [read more...]

In the bosses office to,there's a message in that

The thing that most surprises me about this story is - despite this being a tropical climate - that it took very little time really for the body to decompose enough to produce a smell strong enough to be the reason for the discovery, rather than someone just finding the hanging body. Even in Thailand I would have expected it to take at least a week before it started to produce a strong enough smell to be detected outside a closed door. Two or three days is all it takes then.

Poor guy.

Will be transferred to another station.

The real question should be where was his boss the past three days? Or is he working under Thai rules show up once a week for full weeks pay?

RIP to the gentleman, my prayers are with his family and friends. I hope they have good supportive people around them at this tragic time.

Really? Someone hangs himself and the "real" question on your mind is where was his boss the last few days? You've never been out of the office over a long weekend?

Suthin was last seen working his regular shift Friday evening at the station.

Not that it matters much, Thursday seems a unlikely day of the event.

There are other things with a strong smell besides decomposition. Think of relaxed muscles and gravity.

There always is.

Maybe he was never a boss.

No family or anyone looking for him for 3 days? Strange!

Good point.

Odd story. Normally it is the prisoners who end up mysteriously hung

in their cells....

I don't think this is a suicide. But thats just my opinion of course.

Perhaps the cleanup of police corruption by the current administration is truly reaching the levels where it will be effective. This is not the first police suicide since the coup. Death before dishonor?

I wonder if in this case the cop in question found out his boss was setting him up as the fall guy, and he was willing to do himself in but wanted to take the boss with him. Hanging himself in the guy's office may be enough of a message. But if the investigation is handled by RFTP, the dead man's message may not be fully appreciated.

Or maybe it wasn't suicide, and the corpse is a message from someone else (eg, 'this could be you').

Good Lord!

I certainly hope he had sufficient life insurance.

Thanks for that as it reminded me of being on holiday here decades ago with my daughter and she saw a newspaper article which reported the national police had ordered all colonels to spend more time in their offices especially on Fridays which were not to be an automatic golf day.

Reverse interrogation.

Thailand seems to be the only place people "commit suicide" via hanging.

Enlighten us all why that always annoys you and a few others, at least most of the members have an imagination and express opinions unlike yourself. Move on and lighten up.
