I expect to read the junta fanbois urging Prayudh and Thailand to have nothing to do with the UN or any other such international body. Let's wait and see...

Perhaps they can sit down and discuss something they have in common, like all the coups that have happened in their countries in the last few years. biggrin.png

Is it me or is the PM on acid?cheesy.gif This is getting to be like the twilight zone. at least stop sniffing that glue. And I for one thought he had his heart and head in same

A country under something even more draconian than Martial, being ruled by a man with absolute and total power (in other words - Dictator), who wants to apply for a position on the UN Security Panel. Yeah, that sounds about right for KooKooLand.

Chan-o-Cha has really lost the plot I think.

What is heavens name can he offer to or get from Fiji, Thailand already has a lot of coconuts, maybe they want to buy some rotten rice?

How bizarre. Does Herr General quite understand what an international pariah Fiji's dictator is? Clearly not. Our leader has finally broken the last working kog in his already stumbling brain.

Current countries for the Pacific-Asia region are Jordon and Malaysia. Must get 2/3's General Assembly vote.

Unless Prayut can invoke Article 44 on the UN, Thailand will not get on the UN Security Council anytime soon. Especially after its new security agreements with Russia and China.

Psst. Russia and China are permanent members of the security council and influence a lot of UN member countries.

Bet the UN members will be really impressed.

First they get a Thai puppet government, so corrupt it was openly owned and controlled by a fugitive criminal who actually paid his MP's and Ministers a salary way over and above what they got from the state to do his bidding, trying to get on the Security Council. Too laughable for words.

Next its the military Junta morphed into a non elected government who'd like a seat.

Still Jordan and Malaysia aren't exactly champions of democracy and bastions of justice. He must figure it's worth a go looking at some who get on there.

Think you might find the Fijian guy in the long skirt was recently ELECTED, in what has been adjudged by the UN, to have been a FAIR Election.

Prayut looks to Fiji PM for support in UN bid
THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- PRIME MINISTER General Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday asked for support from Fiji in Thailand's bid to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) 2017-2018.

The issue was discussed during a meeting yesterday with his Fijian counterpart Josaia Voreqe (Frank) Bainimarama, who was in Thailand on a working visit to boost ties and forge cooperation on trade, development and security.

While in Thailand, the Fijian prime minister will also attend the 71st Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN Escap), which ends on Friday.

Thailand has been a dialogue partner in the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) since 2004 and sends representatives to attend the forum annually, Prayut said.

Fiji is among the top Pacific island countries with economic potential for Thailand. The island provides resources such as fisheries, forests and minerals for the Thai industrial sector, he said.

Thailand - a potentially large market for the Pacific islands region - is aiming to promote the growth of trade between the two countries. Thailand's major exports to Fiji include cars, thermoplastics and soaps - while importing meat and fisheries from Fiji.

Prayut added that Thailand and Fiji had always had cordial relations in the international arena.

Thailand wanted to exchange votes with Fiji in the UN for its bid to be a non-permanent member of the UNSC. In return, Thailand would support Fiji's bid to be member of the UN Human Rights Council and chair of the General Assembly, Prayut said.

You really couldn't make it up.

How the General can back Fiji's HR bid is amazing or maybe he's in awe of their ability to string out nearly a decade of military rule and abuses.

Now that he has Fiji throwing its weight around it is a sure thing that Thailand will get the nod for security council. Not that they didn't have a shot before. This security council is in charge of full moon parties and lottery ticket prices right

I think the security council would welcome the PM as laughter is the best medicine so what could be better after a heavy day discussing the world's problems than listening to Uncle Two speak ?

" Now here's your chit for going to the doctors, and make sure you get something for your delusions of grandeur, OK?"

The television ad " Thai people see the world differently " just gets more and more accurate.

Yeh, that's what we need, Thai people ga-ga on kava. Try to imagine it, on top of the Leo beer, whiskey and ya-ba. bah.gif

I cringe when I think of all the money spent over the years in vain attempts to gain this degree of detachment from reality. Congratulations, general. a tip of the hat to you, my friend. For fully apprehending the importance of aligning yourself with one of the more influential members of the Council, Fijian Prime Minister Bainimarama in your bid to bolster your credibility with the UN General Assembly. This was clearly a master stroke from a superior political tactician, Well playd, General. The backroom exchanges must have been something to behold. This ballsy maneuver we can only hope does not overly impede your lifelong quest to finely hone a suitable caricature for yourself. Your seat on the council as well as your appropriate place in posteriority (sic), sorry, Freudian slip.... posterity, shall soon be assured. Chok dee, na khrap.
