Phuket:- A Kuwaiti tourist was killed in a bungee jump accident at the popular Patong beach in Phuket Wednesday evening, police said.

Pol Maj Thirasak Boonsaeng, an officer on duty of Krathu district police station, was alerted by officials of the intensive care unit of Patong Hospital that a foreign tourist had been fatally injured in an accident.

Initially, Thairath Online reported that the tourist was a Ukrainian citizen but Khaosod Online reported he was a Kuwaiti.

Thirasak was informed that Abdullah Adel Kadhmbahman, 25, was injured in a fall from a bungee jump on the Patong beach.

Thirasak informed Patong police chief Pol Col Chaiwat Uikham who rushed to the hospital with a team of policemen.

Police found the body of Kadhmbahman, who was wearing only black shorts, on a bed. Doctors had performed an x-ray and found that he suffered broken neck and broken right lib.

A hospital official said a pick-up truck delivered the tourist and the driver initially claimed that the tourist fainted and passed out. But the hospital staffs did not believe him and pressed for more clarification before the driver admitted that the tourist fell from a bungee jump. The driver then sped off.

Chaiwat then led a team of officers to check the bungee jump machine, which is located on a large field of grass next to a large pool. Officials led police to inspect the spot where the Kuwaiti fell and reporters were not allowed to go into the area.

Chaiwat told reporters after inspecting the scene that a link between the rope that tied the legs of the tourist and the elastic cable of the bungee jump broke off while he was falling down, causing his body to fall to the ground.

Chaiwat said police will investigate that it was an accident or a case of carelessness.

This outfit has a lot to answer for trying to clear the scene. RIP

Chaiwat said police will investigate that it was an accident or a case of carelessness. How the firk can a cable breaking during the jump ever be an accident. They should be investigating if it was murder or manslaughter, end of story.

Not the first time and probably not the last, , tourists have been warned of bungyjumping in Thailand before. We had an accident like this in Pattaya a few years ago. RIP.

With a broken neck may be he wasn't dead when he started the journey to the hospital, but in typical thai cover up fashion they didn't want call for an ambulance or medical assistance...

Police rushed to the hospital to view the dead body . . . amazing efficiency.

What a pathetic piece of reporting. Pathetic attempt at a cover up of blatant equipment failure.

There is a distinct lack of accountability and responsibility for just about anything like this in this country.

We, the residents and our fellow citizens have a long way to go and most of us don't have the time.

We had a drunk pick up driver slam into two ladies and a child on a motorbike the other day, killing the

ladies and seriously injuring the child. The penalty. 40,000 baht for each of the ladies.

Thats about £700 or USD 1,200 for each life. Amazing.

Despite having a broken neck and other injuries he may have survived if they and left him where he fell fand called an ambulance.

Instead they tossed him in the back of a pickup and dropped him off at hospital!

as I have posted very recently - safety is at the bottom (if at all) of a long list of priorities - Money and scamming being right at the top, these people should be required to have a licence to operate and be regulated and undergo regular safety inspections, it is rumoured that Thailand is a top tourist destination the last 30 years, I'd have thought that would be enough time to improve on standards especially safety

what was the recent headline Thai Tourism Ministry assures diplomats travel here is safe for their citizens not to mention the carnage on the roads especially in tourist areas like Pattaya and Phuket were to local road kill has become alarming especially people on motorbikes being slaughtered by late night early morning drunk drivers

Baht buses about as far as I want to go & defy death... no need to look for adrenaline rush thrills here: just step out the door. BTW my email notification read "Ukranian" & article says Kuwaiti... is proof readers brother in charge of safety on jumps?

Broken neck & ribs. As one guy put it he could have been alive but he would have been dragged and lifted with his head not secure, rolling around. They probably filled him moving him to the hospital instead of calling ambulance.

There is no testing or official safety checks, mind you if there was the safety officials would not know what to look for. I remember the Pattaya accident few years back.

I would never do anything like this in Thailand.

safety in Thailand is an afterthought if even at all. they will just go to temple and pay monks to get clean no problem do again. wash, rinse repeat no problem. nothing will ever change just be careful out there anything that can be done wrong will be done wrong by them.count on it

Circusman if you know anything about head and neck injuries you do not move the person until a stabilizer is placed around the neck. There is a good chance his neck was broken whilst in the pickup. Also in this case moving a person in this situation, you can sever the spinal cord.

Once again, Safety in Thailand is a non starter, in any shape or form...

Poor guy....

But on the other hand how many people are so careless as to value their own life so little!
