If you're using Hola, read this about your ip possibly being sold as an exit node

>>In practice, if you are a user of the free version of Hola, your connection can be sold as an exit node through Luminati. In other words, your internet connection can be bought and used through Luminati, turning you and other Hola users into a node of what could be described as a voluntary botnet.

That's all stipulated on HOLA.ORG, on the Facing Page of the website and multiple mentions in the FAQ.

But who can be bothered to actually read the Terms of Service when there's restricted media that needs accessing?

Hola.org
Community powered VPN
Hola is the first community powered (Peer-to-Peer) VPN, where users help each other to make the information on the web accessible for all again. We take great care to be able to provide you this service while protecting your privacy, security and personal information.
Opt out of the community
If you want to enjoy the power of the network without contributing your resources, you can purchase a premium subscription. We recommend the free version, and take care to only use your resources when you don't need them.

Hola.org FAQ:

What is a community powered (Peer-to-Peer) VPN?

Is Hola free?

The Hola peer to peer architecture makes Hola free and secure. However, some users may prefer not to contribute their idle resources to the Hola network, and thus can join the Hola premium service which lets you use Hola without your idle resources being used in return.

Can I use Hola and not be a peer contributing to the community?

How can Hola be free?

Personally, I don't know of many people that would want Thailand as their exit node, unless they are Best Korea wanting to launch a cyber attack on Sony.

But, Yes, your VERY COMPUTER running HOLA can be USED BY OTHERS possibly to commit in nefarious deeds.

So it's very similar to selling your sole to the devil in exchange for having one of your gratifications instantly satisfied. And the devil sells the debt on.

Bwuhuhuhaha... it's just business. Nothing personal.

So people use a P2P VPN service, without understand what the P2P bit means? biggrin.png

Just turn off Hola when you're not actually using it yourself - problem solved - the OSX/Chrome version does not stay resident when doing this - not sure about Windows though.

I started giving Hola some attention after reading this. I don't use it much, some news sites don't allow connections from certain countries, which is where Hola comes in (for me).

When installing in Firefox on Windows 7 it will install executables and two Windows services. That's a little more than I'm comfortable with.

Thanks to the OP for this thread.

I left my sole in Dover.
