Visa expired. Extend or pay fine at airport

Featured Replies

Morning all.

Time has flown by and we forgot to check what date it was.

Noticed on Friday night our 1 month VOA was up on 31st may. And immigration closed for the long weekend so today is the 2nd June and we're on overstay. We fly put back to the UK on the morning of the 7th June.

Trying to decide on the best course to take.

Main question as immigration was closed do we get fined for 2 days if we go and get and extension today ? If they don't fine for closed days I think better to go and join the ques and extend. Otherwise 1900bt for extension and 1000bt overstay is 2900bt. And we lose at least half a day of the last few days of the holiday. So I'm thinking it might be better to just pay 7 days overstay on departure.

Since immirgaiton was closed you will not be fined, if you go today that is.

You can get a 30 day extension for 1,900 baht. That is cheaper than the overstay fine and will be completely legal.

Last question. Is there still no overstay fine for children ? As we have 2 children also. But do recall a few years back we were told not to bother with there's due to minors not being fined.

Children are not subject to overstay fines they are, however, expected to have legal status whilst in Thailand

Children under 15 years old are not fined. (The overstay is noted in their passport)

Are children charged the 1900 extension or are they exempt from that.

I'm only asking about the children as when we lived here we jumped thru all the right hoops and got them ed visas to go to school which took ages and one day at rayong immigration a English speaking official told us not to bother renewing the following year as there was no penalty anyway lol.

Children have to pay the fee. .

Children must have a visa and pay for that as any adult, the same goes for extesions of stay.

They are only not fined when on overstay because of their age. The Thai criminal code does not allow persons under the age of 15 to be punished.
