NLA to open impeachment case against 248 ex-MPs on June 26

BANGKOK: -- The National Legislative Assembly is due to open the impeachment case on June 26 against 248 former MPs and senators for their attempts to amend the 2007 constitution.

NLA president Pornpetch Wichitcholachai said Tuesday that the NLA had already received the case from the National Anti-Corruption Commission which has faulted the 248 former legislators of misconduct for their attempts to amend the previous charter.

The NACC has sought to impeach the ex-legislators, many of them members of the Pheu Thai party and pro-Pheu Thai senators.

Mr Pornpetch said that ex-legislators facing the impeachment process would be divided into three groups namely those who signed the motion calling for charter aments; those who voted in support of the amendments and those who both signed the motion and voted for the amendments.

The NACC has dropped out the former legislators who inserted voting cards on behalf of their colleagues.

In accordance with the procedure, the NACC will make the opening statement against the former legislators who have the right to make rebuttals.

Slight case of hypocrisy going on here, however they do deserve to be impeached and banned from Politics and if this is how it gets done, so be it.

Interesting to note that "The NACC has dropped out the former legislators who inserted voting cards on behalf of their colleague". I guess voting on behalf of a colleague who can't be bothered to turn up is not against the law or unethical after all, cos hey, he would have voted that way anyway and it saved him having to drag his ass away from the soapy massage girls (or boys).

So, it was illegal for elected representatives to vote for amendments to the previous Charter? The same Charter that is now securely in the bin. Binned by unelected 'representatives' for what purpose exactly?

Thailand will never see a civilian government with any real power. The corrupt administrators, military, police etc.etc. are too well entrenched to allow a mere politician (especially an unusually squeaky clean politician) interfere with the 'natural order'.

And these elected senators being prosecuted by coup installed appointed puppet legislators on the recommendation of a politically active anti democratic pro elite independent organisation were amending the charter so that...............the senate would become a fully elected chamber............can't have thatcheesy.gif

So, the now defunct Parliament acting incorrectly under the charter that was abolished are now being impeached and charged with attempting to change laws that do not apply anymore?

THIS IS ABSURD.

If laws are abolished, legal process in the World Court and countries claiming to abide by their standards, like Thailand, does not allow anyone to be retroactively charged with violating laws that are not in force. It is the exact equivalent of charging someone with violating a law from another century.

Further, many are constantly being harped upon as having not shown up for votes and meetings -- look at the NLA picture. There are more students in a kindergarten class than that thin crowd.

This is a beautiful example of legitimized corruption, and a case of abusing the laws for ulterior motives. And, no, I am not a fan of any faction, but the current government members are taking turns wiping their backsides with every charter ever written here.
