I have a UK passaport, and more than 3 VOA stamps in the last 6 months. My current VOA is due to expire just before the end of September, and I was planing a short trip to Hong Kong.

How easy is it to get a 90 day VISA there?

I am eligible for a retirement visa, and am about to start the process, but haven't bothered before because I have been travelling so much that VOAs were fine.

Apply for a non-O visa; purpose of visit “to investigate retirement possibility in Thailand”. Single-entry or multiple-entry, whichever you prefer and can get.

Failing that, get a tourist visa and after arrival in Thailand, with at least 21 days left of your permitted stay, apply at a local immigration office for a change of visa status to non-O and at the same time apply for annual extension on the basis of retirement.
